Introduction:
In this documentation I will be describing all the different methods of Mobile connectivity. I will describe all these methods in depth and explain how they link to mobile technology. I will not only be explaining the methods of connectivity, I will also be explaining the technologies used by mobile devices. I will also be explaining each method’s advantages, disadvantages and uses in this document. These methods are separated into two categories and they are Wired and Wireless, and Cellular Technologies. The methods of connectivity are:
Wired and Wireless
Wired:
The purpose of a wired network is to allow a group of devices to link so that those devices can share data. A wired setup uses physical cables to transfer data between different devices and computer systems. A wired network is a common type of wired configuration. Most wired networks use Ethernet cables to transfer data between connected PCs. Wired networks are mostly used in Banks, Financial firms, Software development firms, Post offices, Government offices and Hospitals. Wired networking is used to create a domain that allows you to share and transfer data between sub-systems of a wired network.

Advantages:
- Wired networks are much faster than wireless networks.
- The wired connection is more secure unless someone breaks the connection and taps the signal.
- Wired connections are straight-forward to configure.
- The cables offer greater bandwidth.
- The shielding’s are utilized to endure against interfering.
- Wired connections offer greater dependability and greater quality of service (QoS).
Disadvantages:
- Wired connection doesn’t offer flexibility when you use it do you cannot use it if you are outside.
- The installation of wired network is very complicated. Also, it’s hard to troubleshoot in defective situations.
- Wired connections need more time to install.
- Wired connections need devices like amplifiers, regenerators, repeaters, hubs and switches to broaden the coverage distance.
- There are more risks of damage to the products that are associated with wired technology as there are additional hardware that are needed when using a wired connection and it can get damaged.
Wireless:
Wireless networks allow multiple devices to connect through the same exact internet and allows them to share data and files. They also allow mobile devices like laptops and phones to move around while still being connected to the internet so you can take your phone or laptop with you wherever you go and yet you will still be able to be connected to the internet. The purpose of a wireless network is to allow a mobile device to still have connectivity no matter how far the router is. The wireless network also allows a group of devices to link and so those devices can share data. Wireless networks also allow mobile devices to obtain that connectivity without any obstructions like wires. And the connectivity is also obtained by access points increasing the signals from the Wi-Fi. Wireless networks are mostly used in schools, colleges and universities.
Advantages:
- Wireless networks are simple to install and retain.
- Wireless networks offer flexibility and mobility while using the devices.
- Wireless signals are obtainable behind the walls and on hilly terrains and therefore it can offer services that are independent of location.
- Prices are very cheap because of the huge number of mobile devices from the number of manufacturers.
- File sharing is very simple when using wireless connections like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.
Disadvantages:
- Wireless networks offer less speed compared to wired networks.
- Wireless networks offer lower bandwidth compared to wired networks because wireless networks use frequency spectrum which is a very inadequate source.
- Wireless networks are less reliable compared to wired networks.
- Wireless networks are likely to get affected by neighbouring wireless networks and by other fading conditions.
- The quality of service is very weak because of the delay in connection setup time.
Cellular Technologies
CDMA:
The purpose for the CDMA network is to allow many signals to dominate over a one-way transmission channel, increasing the usage of obtainable bandwidth.
Advantages:
- There is less power required when using CDMA, so you don’t have to use a lot of power when using this network.
- CDMA offers better multipath performance.
- CDMA channels aren’t simply decodable, so it provides an increased cellular communication security.
- It’s very efficient as it can allow many users to use this network.
- It can be operated at a low level of power.
- When using CDMA, it’s very simple to add users and you can add as many users.
- When using CDMA, it provides resources for users.
- There is no chance for hackers to decode the code that has been delivered.
Disadvantages:
- Time is required to be consistent when using CDMA.
- CDMA cannot provide global roaming which is a prominent benefit of GSM.
- The performance of CDMA degrades when there is a rise in the total of users.
- When you are using CDMA, the size of the code must be meticulously chosen, because it can cause postponement.
- If the total of users rises, then the whole quality of service degrades.
- There are additional costs required because there is a lot of equipment needed.
GSM:
GSM is used for transferring mobile voice and data services that manages at the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands. GSM systems were created as a numerical system using the TDMA (time division multiple access) procedure for transmission purposes.
Advantages:
- Phones function depending on SIM cards and therefore it is easy to change the phones but still use that same SIM card and you can still obtain your old data from your old phone as that old data is in your old SIM car. And that SIM card can be put into your new phone.
- It’s simple to merge GSM with more wireless technology-dependent devices such as CDMA, LTE, etc.
- Improved versions of GSM with a greater number of antennas will offer high speed download and upload of data.
- GSM technology has been developed since a long time ago and therefore GSM mobile phones and modems are very common and accessible globally.
- GSM technology offers very cost-efficient products and solutions.
Disadvantages:
- To improve the coverage, repeaters need to be installed.
- GSM offers inadequate data rate capability, for higher data rate GSM advanced version devices are utilized.
- GSM uses FTDMA access scheme. Many users here, share the same bandwidth and therefore this will lead to interfering when a great number of users are using GSM.
- GSM uses pulse based burst transmission technology and therefore it affects specific electronics. Because of this, airplanes, petrol bunks and hospitals don’t use GSM based mobile or other gadgets.
