Inhumanity; extremely cruel and brutal behavior. This can be done in the form of dehumanization which many Jews experienced. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, this theme is explored more. This is done by writing about the experience twelve-year-old Elie Wiesel faced throughout the Holocaust. During his time in the concentration camps, Elie Wiesel was subjected to a great deal of brutality and inhumanity from both other prisoners and Nazis. Cruelty and the concept of man's inhumanity to man serve as an important discussion in Elie Wiesel's book, Night. Elie Wiesel’s use of characters, their actions, and feelings display the inhumanity of man to man.

In Night, Elie discusses the level of inhumane behavior shown by Germans and even Jews during the Holocaust. Elie often emphasizes the great cruelty shown by certain individuals at a time when it was seen as the norm. In his memoir, he provides many examples of this recurring theme and takes a deeper look into the inhumanity of man by man. An example is when Elie’s father says, ‘‘Humanity? Humanity is not concerned with us. Today anything is allowed. Anything is possible, even these crematories.’’The quote shows how the Jews were dehumanized to the point where they felt like humanity no longer existed. Not only that but this scene implies that the human race can’t be bothered about the issues facing Jews and that everything is permissible, even the burning alive of children. It also displays the inhumane conditions they had to face to lose hope in everything they once believed in. To expand on this thought, Jews were given a number tattooed onto them.‘‘The three “veterans” with needles in their hands, engraved a number on our left arms. I became A-7713. After that, I had no other name.”This was used to identify them since their names were taken away. It also served as a reminder of how they were viewed as less than others, not only by Germans but eventually by other Jews too.

During the Holocaust, many Jews were treated less than animals which made them eventually internalize that feeling. When it comes to treatment, the Nazis were very barbaric to the Jews. They almost never look after the Jews and just serve them stale food along with broth with almost no nutrients. This quote from the memoir Night is a prime indication of how brutal the Nazis were when it came to the basic treatment of Jewish prisoners in Nazi death camps and how savage they were. In Chapter One Elie notes that he heard whispers saying,
