Imagine that you are hanging out with friends on a nice summer day and your friend says that you guys should go do something, and immediately you look to the corner of your room and see your baseball glove. Why not go play ball? Baseball teaches you adversity in tough situations, baseball is the most competitive and team-oriented sport. Whether it comes to watching or playing a sport, baseball is bound to give you a better time than all the other options.
There are many arguments for why I believe baseball is the best sport, but I am only going to be focusing on three reasons. From the unforgettable bongs, friends, and memories you will make. Take this quote for example, “a lifelong friendship can start with a simple game of catch”. Baseball has created many friendships for me that I believe will last a lifetime, and I already have so many great memories playing the great game of baseball. Also, baseball has considerably fewer injuries than all other sports. For example, 110,000 baseball injuries were treated in emergency rooms, about 105,000 less than football and 60,000 less than basketball. Finally, baseball has a ton of stand-up guys like Clayton Kershaw, Derek Jeter, Joe Mauer, etc, who put tons of their time not only into baseball but their communities too. Many baseball players start up their charities, for example, the “David Ortiz Children’s Fund”, and other players give back to their communities like Javier Beaz helped out the people of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Irma and Maria. For example, Baez said. “But my mind has been over there, trying to find out about family, how they’re doing.”
Some people might argue my point by saying that baseball isn’t the only sport that you have to continue to play with a lead at the end of the game, but that’s just not the case, for example, “every other sport allows the team that is winning to basically 'ice' the game. In football, a team can take a knee. In basketball, a team can dribble out the clock. In hockey, a team can just skate around with the puck.” They will also say that baseball doesn’t have the best athletes either, but Bartolo Colon is 45 years old and still pitching lights out in the big leagues.
Baseball is the best sport to play or watch. Whether it's staying safe, forming bonds, or giving back to your community. Baseball has had many players come and go. The great game has been around for ages and isn’t leaving anytime soon. There is a reason why it is called America’s Pastime.
