There are many different characteristics of basketball that a player needs to be good at the sport. This includes awareness. This characteristic involves a player to understand the game a lot better, this doesn’t mean that the only point is to put the ball in the basket, it is way more than that. Awareness is about knowing where you are meant to be and having good spatial awareness which falls into this characteristic. Another characteristic that basketball players have to have is the desire to get better. This is more of a mental characteristic, that all players have to possess.Determination is another key characteristic that you need in basketball, however, this skill can be used in every sport and in your daily life. Confidence is another characteristic needed, if you aren’t confident with yourself, then you won’t be willing to take risks, and thus will never get better. Being passionate about basketball will make you more determined, this is why Lebron James is so successful. You also have to be very mentally tough as a lot of players use trash talking as a way of distracting their opponent. Lebron James is very good at not letting other people’s talking get to his head, and instead uses it to make him angry and take it out on them. The final characteristic is the ability to be coached. It makes it very hard for a coach to do their job if their team is not listening to instructions. Lebron James listens to his coach, Frank Vogel, intently and follows all instructions, which is why he has risen to fame in the basketball community. These are some of the many characteristics that are needed in basketball to be successful, just as lebron James has, in which he possesses all of these characteristics.
Both Jackie Robinson from the movie 42 and lebron james contain very similar characteristics that have helped them to get to the level that they are at. Jackie Robinson was determined to be the first black baseball player in MLB, and he achieved this goal with grit, courage and determination. Jackie was constantly harassed with all the taunting and threats he received, through this, he managed to never give up. He was showed amazing character through his fearless and daringness, and him being a very friendly man in general, which shows his great character. All of these characteristics can be observed in the movie, ‘42’, and reading through reports of his life on the internet. Jackie Robinson was an ambitious, determined, fearless, and remarkable man. His perseverance and influence on America during the rough trials he faced. He was determined to be the first black baseball player in the modern era, and he accomplished his goal with courage and patience. Even with all the threats he received from spectators, coaches and players, Jackie Robinson never gave up. Jackie Robinson was the grandson of a slave. He was born in a cabin in Cairo, Georgia, on January 31, 1919. He had four siblings named Edgar, Frank, Mack, and Willa Mae. The Robinsons sharecropped which means a landowner allows a tenant to use the land in return for a share of the crops produced on their portion of land for a white family called the Sassers. The Robinsons grew crops for Mr. Sasser, and in exchange got a place to live. Jackie's dad ran away from the family when Jackie was just six months old. Marlie Robinson, Jackie's mum, decided to move to Pepper Street in Pasadena, California to provide her children a better life. Although Jackie Robinson had a very difficult upbringing he used this to fuel his passion, baseball, and to get through the hatred he received from lots of people. Lebron James is very similar to Jackie Robinson in that way. He was born in Akron, Ohio on December 30, 1984. He grew up in Akron where he had a very tough childhood. His father was an ex-con who wasn't there when he grew up. His father also beat him and his mum was almost always nowhere to be found. His family was extremely poor and had a very tough time. However, throughout his entire childhood Lebron’s basketball coach, Frankie Walker, let him stay with his family where he could get away from the abusive at his home and focus on school and basketball. Both athletes use their hardship throughout life to drive them to success which is a very good characteristic to not let things out of your control let you down.
In terms of physical attributes, Lebron James has a variety of different skills including: strength, jumping abilities, height and a very large stature that make him one of the best athletes in the world. Jackie Robinson has very different physical attributes to Lebron James, he is relatively short, and not has built, and doesn’t have as good jumping abilities. However, Jackie was very fast and was very good at long jump which allowed him to get to the bases easier without getting hit. But in terms of mental attributes, both the athletes have the same kind of mindset, they both try and stay very positive in the most tough times, never lose their temper, courageous, brave to take risks and are very team based players, using their teammates to their advantage.
