I chose this title ‘Men’s view point about women’s freedom in modern society’ because it deals with universality. Especially in third world countries like Pakistan women are humiliated and restricted to live within four walls of home. They are bound to follow rules abide by men and become puppet in the hands of so called custodian men.

INTRODUCTION

Women’s freedom means the condition of being freedwomen have power to act or speak or think without externally restraints. A women2 is no commodity or slave that an equal to men in all spheres of life. Women play great role in human progress have an importance place in society.

They are not inferior to men they are capable of sharing the responsibilities of life shoulder to shoulder with men. Man and women have been rightly compared to the wheels of acarriage. Few years back this thingis3 quite uncertain that women can play a positive role in progress. In that era women were engaged in old traditions and values, in this way their abilities were wasted. And this thing developed in their minds that they can’t do anything. If we look according to justice then we will know that women are not inferior to men.

Before the advent of Islam women were treated very badly as animals, they had no rights and regarded most hatred creature, babygirls were buried alive when they born. They had no rights in property of heritance. But when ISLAM appears the clouds of darkness over the right of women come to an end. Islam gives rights and respect to women, Islam emphasize that women should be treated with love, affection, and sympathy.

Historical background

The libertarian socialist (anarcho-syndicalist) movement long fought against women’s oppression. And many prominent figures in the women’s movement were anarcho-syndicalist.

Few examples are given:

(1)Bakunin:Michal Bakunin thefounder of Anarcho-syndicalists was afighter forwomen’s freedom“Inthe eyes of law “Bakunin noted that” even the best educated talented, intelligent women is inferior to the most ignorant man”

For the poor underprivileged women said Bakunin, there is a threat “prostitution” and the threat ”hunger and cold”

Even within the family , women are too often the “slaves of their husband” and their children are “deprived of decent education, condemn to a British life of slavery and their degradation”

Status/freedom of women in Islam

In the midst of the darkness that engulfed the world, the divine revelation echoed in the desert of Arabia with a noble and universal message to humanity.

The Quran provides clear cut evidence that a women is completely equated with men in the site of ALLAH in terms of her rights and responsibilities thus we can say that Islam the declares men and women being of same substance other feelings mentality and one is in a common position eve the other. Then this is the basic believe which if adhered to san emaciate a whole array of issue and problems that Muslims face today.

Following Quran Ayat shows rights of women in religion of Islam. On the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. Rasulullah (S.A.W.W) said, “Jannat lies under the feet of your mother.” None but a noble man treats women in an honorable manner, and none but an ignorable treats women disgracefully, (Sunan At-Tirmidhi) The most perfect of the believers in faith are the best of them in moral excellence , and the best of you are the kindest to their wives .(Sunan At Tirmidhi)

In the religion of Islam the birth of bally girl is consider as REHMAT or the bringer of fortune. Women being a wife she is good companion to men in all his social, physical and economic field of life.

Islam honors women greatly it honors women as mothers must be respected, obeyed and treated with kindness. Pleasing one’s mother is regarded as part of pleasing ALLAH.Islam tells us that paradise lies at the mother’s feet,i,e. that the best way to reach paradise is through one’s mother. And Islam forbids disobeying one’s mother or making her angry, even by saying a mild word of disrespect . The mother rights are greater than those of the father, and the duty to take care of her grows greater as he mother grows older and weaker. All of hat is mentioned in many texts of the Quran and Sunnah.

Islam also honors women as wives. I slam urges the husband to treat his wife in a good and kind manner, and says that the wife has rights over the husband like his rights over her, except that has a degree over her, because of his responsibility of spending and taking care of the family’s affairs. Islam states that the best of the Muslim men is the one who treats his wife in the best manner, and the man is forbidden to takes his wife’s money without her consent. ALLAH says (interpretation of the meaning): “and live with them honorably”[ ‘al Nisa’4:19]

Status of women in Pakistan

In Pakistan the story of women’s deprivations start even before her birth, where the most of the girl fetuses are aborted. The lucky ones who survive are mostly ”unwanted” children. Their life is a journey of subordination. Before marriage they are under strict watching eyes and are always thought doubtful in character especially when ones are school going. In this secondary status treatment and doubt their marriages are arranged by their families.

After marriage, her husband and her in laws get hold of her reins and decide matters on her behalf; severe punishment are reported for bringing food late, for answering back or undertaking forbidden trips etc. According to Sajida; a journalists in Lark Ana, Feb 1999 “women in Pakistan are killed like hens; they have no way to escape and no say in what happen to them. Finally when she becomes old and her husband gets weak or may have gone already. It is her son or sons who decide her fate in the declining years of her life. Thus word “women” in Pakistan is synonymous with “endurance”. She is simply forced to accept certain bare facts of life. According to Hina Jilani, Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, “the right to life of women in Pakistan is conditional on their obeying social norms and traditions.

In addition to that, women in Pakistan face all kinds of grass violence and abuse at the hands of the male perpetrators, family members, and state gents. Multiple forms of violence include rape, domestic abuse as spousal murder, mutilations burning and disfiguring faces by acid, beating, ritual honor-killings and custodial abuse and torture,

According to report by Amnesty international several hundred women and girls die each year in so-called ”honor-killings” in Pakistan, in a backdrop to government inaction. She is like a bird in family feuds to create evidence of “illicit” connections and cover them under the gab of “grave and sudden provocation” to escape severe punishment.

The practice of Summary-killing of a women suspected of an illicit liaison, known as ‘Karo Kari” in Sindh and Baluchistan, is known to occur in all parts of the country. Kari’s (the female suspected of illicit relationship), remain dishonored even after death.Their bodies are thrown in rivers or buried in special hidden Kari graveyards. Women who repot rape or sexual harassment encounter a series of obstacles. As a result, when women become victims of violence resort to the judicial system for redress, they are more likely to find further abuse it is generally condemned by social custom and considered as a private family matter.

LITERATURE REVIEW

In Malala Yousafzai’s Novel “I’M MALALA” she explains how men of Swat put ban on women’s freedom even they do not allow them to go to schools to get education. They are restricted just to live within their homes. They can’t raise voice against their social rights. Their main task is to marry and bring children. They are like slaves and men always try to subjugate them. Even their schools are blown up by terrorist attacks in the name of Islam.

In another African Novel “THINGS FALL APART” by CHINUA ACHEBE, he discusses in Africa women are beaten. They are bound to household duties or to collect maize and beans in the fields. A man is allowed to marry more than one women but price of bride is paid to her parents. Twin babies of any woman are thrown in jungle and it is considered an ill omen on the part of women.

In an Indian novel “THE MINISTRY OF UTMOST HAPPINESS” Arundhati ROY tells how Begam Jahanara is worried on the birth of daughter instead of a son Aftab and even she left her own daughter on the shrine of Sarmed Shaheed unattended. She also describes an event of Rape a woman called Reventhy who is raped by five or six Indian army soldiers. Later on she become pregnant and born a baby girl whom she left in a forest to die.

Past attitude of men in Pakistan

Few year back men attitude in Pakistan was negative and narrow minded the following incidents support this reality. In 2010 the event occurred in Sindh and reported by Jang news dated 11 Feb, the report was about a girl of twelve year marries to man of 30 years .Her parents’ want that they marry their daughter because they think their daughter is a burden on them. They treated women as slaves and parents impose their decision on their daughter.

They were very wrong in their thoughts that omen were made only to them that were quiet unfair. They believed that men were superior to women. Women treat as lowest creature. They don’t give as such rights that women can give her decision in house and family matters. Men believed they were on central positionand all other were their follower’s in house matter. They were against women education because they believed that education will spoiled their females. They felt happiness on the birth of baby girl as burden due to marriage and dowry matters. They don’t gives rights of inheritance for saving their wealth they marriage their daughter with Quran which was very unjustified.

Now most of these wrong believes and thoughts has been changed because of high rate of education in all areas. They know now the importance of education and because of getting educationtheir attitude were now positive towards the sights and freedom of women.

Conclusion

It has been concluded that view point of men about freedom of women is changed. In modern society men give freedom to women. They give them equal rights in every field of life. They give them to take important decision of their lives about themselves. The result supported our hypothesis. Attitude of men towards freedom of women is changed due to awareness provided by education and media. Women play a great role in human progress as the role of women in society has significance importance. We see women in different organization, industries, hospitals, schools and colleges. They gain more confidence as they perform practically they are able to face andconquer hardship of their lives. They are capable of showing responsibilities of life shoulder to shoulder with men. Men and women rightly resembled to wheel of carriage if one wheel is defected than other wheel cannot performs its work properly hence we can say that a women does not have status of inferior creature in the eyes of Pakistani men.
