When you think about religion, many religions come across your mind. Whether these religions made a big impact, still in existence today or the religion has deceased. With all these religions that exist today, I’m pretty sure some of these religions share a lot in common but these religions share their differences as well. The two religions that come to mind that I want to compare and contrast is Christianity and Judaism. Judaism and Christianity are similar and different in so many ways. I want to compare and contrast them by their belief in god, the Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, Human health and sins.

I’m going to start off by sharing the differences Christianity and Judaism has in common. We already know that Judaism and Christianity believed that one god existed. Judaism believed that one god exists while Christians believed that the trinity of one person exists as God. As this quote from the articles says, “Jews do not accept Christian’s idea that God is Trinity of three Persons in one God ''. Christian believed that the father, the son and Holy Spirit was God. Christianity supposed to be a monotheism religion. How can this religion be monotheism if you believe that God is three persons in one body. Other differences between these two beliefs is Christians believed that Satan is a fallen angel while Jews believed that Satan is an agent of God. Christians like their Torah to be written only, while Jews like their to be written and oral. Christians believe that only Christians go to heaven while Jews believe that all righteous people go to heaven. Christianity believed that the Land of Israel is irrelevant while Jews believed it’s crucial. Jews feel like they are the chosen people while Christians feel the church is the chosen people. Christianity accepts Jesus as their messiah and personal savior while Jews don’t. As this quote from the articles says, “The essential difference between Jews and Christians is that Christians accept Jesus as messiah and personal savior. Jesus is not part of Jewish theology.” Since Jesus has special holidays that can be celebrated like Christmas, Easter, Palm Sunday, etc; Jews don't celebrate those days. As this quote from the article says, “Amongst Jews, Jesus is not considered a divine being. Therefore all holidays that have a connection to the life of Jesus are not part of Jewish life and/or practice”. Jews didn’t believe in Jesus like Christianity do. Christianity believes that the Messiah will come and save the world from its burden and sins while Jews do not believe that the promised Messiah will come to save the world from the burden of sin. Like this compelling truth article says, “ When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey just a week before His crucifixion, they hailed Him as a military hero who would save them from Roman occupation. When they quickly learned that Jesus was not going to do this, they turned against Him”. Jesus basically wasn't there for them when they needed him the most. That incident really made them question Jesus. They may have felt portrayed, hurt, neglected and many more feelings. They just threw their belief for Jesus out the window. My final difference between Christianity and Judaism is the resurrection. Christians believed that Jesus rose from the dead because their foundation is built off of Jesus. Meanwhile, Jews didn't believe that Jesus was resurrected. Like this compelling article says, “ Even after Jesus was raised from the dead and appeared to His followers, many Jews refused to believe in the resurrection There are many differences on Christianity and Judaism but I can’t write my whole essay explaining the difference. So now, I’m going to switch it over to similarities.

There are many differences between Christianity and Judaism; however, there are a lot of similarities. The differences show a distinction between the two, while the similarities shed light showing that Christianity and Judaism are two peas in a pod. Both Christianity and Judaism believe that there is a messiah and that the messiah will return and save them from hardships. However, Christians believed that Jesus is the messiah. Jews do not believe that Jesus is the messiah because their beliefs are based on the Old Testament. Jews do not believe in working on Sabbath. In the old Testament, the Sabbath is considered a day for resting. Jesus healed the sick and disable on the Sabbath. An article from Every day student backs up this statement. It states, 'Jesus said to him, 'Get up, take up your bed, and walk.' And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, 'It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.' But he answered them, 'The man who healed me, that man said to me, 'Take up your bed, and walk.'' The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. This was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.' Now I'm Continuing the similarities these religions have in common. Both Christianity and Judaism originated in the southwest regions, alone with Islam. As this PBS article said “Three of the world's major religions; of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam -- were all born in the Middle East and are all inextricably linked to one another.” They both are the top major religion in society today. They are the most powerful, strong and biggest religion we have so far. Both of these religions are also monotheistic, meaning that they believe in one God. Christianity and Judaism also recognize Abraham as the first ever to prophet. Like this Global connect article says, “Abraham is traditionally considered to be the first Jew. He is also the first to have made a covenant with God.” Both religions acknowledge Abraham as their first prophet; they are also called the, “Abrahamic Religions''. Now I'm going to switch my essay up to the sins Judaism and Christianity has in common. Judaism and Christianity do not take sin lightly. Sins is identified as rebellion. According to the Judaism and Christianity, essay “Both religions define sin as rebellion, and God has made his will to be known to all people through His word”. That statement proves that God let us know sins are not permitted, but he will show mercy. Judaism and Christianity showed that God was a merciful God. God does not tolerate sin but he loves and forgives. Like this Judaism and Christianity essay says, “One of the reasons for allowing the people to sin is so as he can demonstrate his will and achieve his objectives; which could be to demonstrate his love since his lover supersedes his hatred”. Therefore both religions believe that God will give them mercy. To continue the similarities, the final one is repentance. Repenting is sincerely asking for forgiveness of your sins. Both religions believe that in order to be forgiven, faith must be incorporated with atonement, or repentance. Like this Judaism and Christianity essay says, “God has provided atonement in order to reconcile all his people with him”. Typically, that means that with atonement and repentance, you can right your wrongs with God. Judaism and Christianity also believe that there are two important principles of living. Those principles are loyal to God and rebellion. This is not saying to do both, rather choose one, but choose wisely. No one is perfect, and God understands completely. Like this statement from Judaism and Christianity essay says, “Sin is a continuous process and cannot be avoided by any human being.” The meaning behind that is, no matter how hard you try, you will sin but if you meaningly repent, all will be forgiven. Some other similarities they have in common is the first Ten Commandments. Some of the Commandments they have in common are do not give false testimony against your neighbor, you shall not steal, you shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not take the Name of the Lord your God in vain, I am the your God and few more of the first ten commandments. These two religions share so much in common, that I might spend too much paper writing their similarities. The similarities shine the lights on these great religions that we have compared.

The two religions that come to mind that I want to compare and contrast is Christianity and Judaism. Judaism and Christianity are similar and different in so many ways. I want to compare and contrast them by their belief in god, the Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, Human health and sins. I learned some many different things while comparing and contrasting these two religions. I see why these two religions are still in existence today, while they are so powerful and millions of people have joined these two religions.
