It is time for us to see the issue that is rupturing our society. The problem is the increase in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) that is taking over the world in our workplaces and homes, and the damage that it is leaving for our future generations and the ways of life which are being negatively affected.
Without paying too much attention to it, artificial intelligence has become the new way of life. We have been inundated with robots in our everyday lives, as they are being used as cleaning tools such as vacuums, to manufacture items, drive cars proven by Tesla and they have been developed to the point that we are capable of having a conversation with them; ever thought about how it’s possible that we can talk to Siri, Alexa or our Google Home? We are being tracked online with our every move, but ever wondered who your personal information such as search results and banking details is being sent to?

The issues of robots and artificial intelligence and the impact that they have on society is disgraceful in the way that our world is developing. Yes, change is for the better and we have to adapt with the times, but are we trying to make the human race extinct? At the rate that our world is progressing, according to a video from New Scientist it is predicted that according to a survey of 352 artificial intelligence researchers, AI will beat us at translating languages by 2024, writing high-school essays by 2026, driving a truck by 2027, working in retail by 2031, writing a best-selling book by 2049 and completing a surgery by 2053. These statistics are disappointing and show the real damage that artificial intelligence is causing to our society.
Alexis Madrigal, a technology editor from the company ‘The Atlantic’ stated in a YouTube video posted in July of 2014 titled ‘When Will Robots Take Over the World?’ that “robots have taken over the world with us as their vector of transmission”. Arguably, this indicates that the robots are copying the human mannerisms, proving that instead of humans being in control of robots, one day in the near future, it is possible that we will witness the robots being in control of the humans. This reference is proven in the Christmas movie ‘The Santa Clause 2’, in the scene where the ‘bad Santa’ releases the robots that take over the elves’ jobs. It can be compared to the way our modern-day society runs as robots are taking over our everyday jobs. Remember going to the supermarket and having someone at the checkout scanning all the items you are purchasing? That no longer exists as the robots, disguised by the name of ‘self-serve machines’ have taken over the jobs of our society.
We need to envision the damage that our generation is causing for the future generations that will one day walk this planet, as we are developing artificial intelligence and improving the production of robots. It is important we overcome these negative objectives which are stealing our jobs and taking over our lives.
Would you like to live in a world where you are controlled by robots and not be able to get a job to live your life? Don’t lie to yourself, no one wants to live in a world like that, so it’s best our society puts a stop to it now before it’s too late.
