In earlier Srilankan people said “Dana giyoth Kataragama nodana giyoth ataramaga”. But in the present day, most of people used maps to find their directions. Using Google we can find the shortest route for our destination. And show the traffic jams and we can avoid those traffic using maps. Thanks to this GPS and mapping we can find petrol stations, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. This digital technology transformed the traveling field.

Automation

This is the best advantage of digital technology. At present, in the world, most of the machines are automated. So easy to work with those machines. And this machine reduces the wasting time. And increased product quality. The not only product is automated. But also, services. As an example, we can book a hotel for a holiday directly from websites. But in the past, we had a contact travel agent to book the hotel.

Entertainment

Entertainment field fully depends on digital technology. Now most of the movies making using high technologies. As an example, the Avatar movie is one of the best movies that used several technologies. And the younger generation playing games by using digital technology. And traditional entertainment field also develops according to the present.

Disadvantages of digital technologies

Instability of the Jobs

Because of digital technology, most people are insecure about their jobs. The most machine gradually replace the people works. At present, most of the services can be done via the Internet. As an example, in the past, we wanted to go to the hospital and book the doctors but now we book them online. Today most of the job done by robots in the world.

People Socially Disconnect

Digital technologies help disconnect people socially. People mostly spend their time on social media. So, there is no time to communicate with their family members and friend. Most of the people used digital devices to communicate with others. And this damages the real-life relationship.

Unsafe Information

At present most people use several technologies to save their private information. But sometimes it is a very risky thing to store your information in the digital vice. Because in a minute criminals can get your information.

Health Issues

This is one of the disadvantages of digital technologies. Most of the people used digital technologies more than 18 hours per day. So, some of the people must have faced several health issues. As a back pain, neck pain, eye problems etc.

Addict the technologies

Because of this digital world people are addicted to several sections. Some people addicted to playing a game. And some users are addicted to using social media for more than 10 hours per day. Users are waste their valuable time doing unnecessary things.

How can technology impact inequality?

In the world, we separate society with different inequality. There are rich, old,educated-uneducated, Western third-world residents, city dwellers- countryside dwellers, etc. In the present day, every second developing the technology. So every day scientists introduce new technology to the world. The whole world doesn’t have equal technology facilities so society is divided into several parts. Technology and inequality have a multifaceted relationship.

As an example, we take our mother country. In Srilanka also we can see how different village to village, city to city. Some cities have every facility but others have only limited facilities. We have to face different technology inequality. As a school student, some can study Information communication and technology as a subject but their real life doesn’t touch the computer. So this is the inequality. But if a student studies in the capital city of the country, that student has all the facilities to study. Most of those students have their own computer. but in the previous government donated some countryside schools to computer labs.

Sometimes those who live in the urban areas don’t have main facilities either. Like electricity, water, and other infrastructure facilities. We live in the technology world. Before introducing the technology to rural areas to the government wants to fulfill their basic needs. As a government, they should deduct the inequality in society. Because this the one problem is the damage phase of the country.

The case study also shows how different the education system city to city. In the Gampaha, district low-income school student has more education facilities but in Monaragala district poverty school student has fewer facilities. This is not only a Sri Lankan problem but in the whole world. In the urban area's schools, the student has every facility to do their studies. Like Electricity, Speed internet service, computer, telecommunication services, etc. As an example, a student who lives in a rural area has more interest in creating new things using technology. But he or she doesn’t have any facilities in the living area. And their parents have the money to fulfill their children's dreams. But the student who lives in the urban areas has all the facilities that they want to complete their dream. And they have the money to learn the latest technology and use it in their experiment. Because of this technology create inequality between the society in the same country.

As an example, in the Srilanka Colombo district Royal College and other famous or national schools have every facility but in some of the rural area, school doesn’t have any building tech the student. Before introducing the technology building the building is the first priority. But in Srilanka government or parliament member doing a thing not to develop the country but to fill their pockets. That way our country always be a developing country, not a developed country.

So deduct this inequality in a society. We should improve our technology facilities in every place. Not only the urban areas but also in rural areas. Because every child in the world has a similar right to complete their education life.

How can e-learning make an impact on the current state of the digital divide in Sri Lanka?

The digital divide means the gap between those who already use the internet or technology facilities and those who don’t use these facilities. Today the world mostly depends on technology. All the field depends on technology. For example medical field, agriculture field, education, transportation, vehicle manufacturing field etc. According to the latest survey results, more, than 50 percent of the population in the world use the internet for their daily activities too. So there is a huge gap between people who use the internet and those who don’t use internet facilities.

E-learning means using electronic media or technology and internet facilities to improve education. E-learning methods are mostly used in self-studying. The E-learning concept was very familiar with today education system. Because most of the student depends on this concept. Most of the student used the e-learning method because they have their own study style. And most people use e-learning because they want to improve knowledge. On the whole, there are only a few countries that have the traditional classroom. And other countries use the latest education teaching methods to teach their student and improve their knowledge.

Traditional classrooms only use the same method to teach. At present, most of the student doesn’t like the traditional methods. So in the urban areas, people used the e-learning. And rural area people don’t use the e-learning methods. Because they don’t have the facilities. So this technology is one of the reason one country socially divide.

In present Srilanka, the education field uses the e-learning facility. Because most of the student are advance using digital technology. But as a third world country, Srilanka doesn’t have the digital technology facilities of the whole country. In urban areas, the education field has more technology facilities but in rural areas education field doesn’t have the technology facilities. It can be one of the reasons the rural doesn’t have more improvement in their education field. Most of the rural areas in Sri Lanka not only don’t have the technology but also social and economic infrastructure. As a question, the description shows how different student education patterns from city to city in the same country. Rural areas in a country have limited resources. But in urban have unlimited resources. So in the same country, there are different education systems for the student. In urban areas use the more advanced method but in rural areas use the traditional classroom system.

Srilanka has language barriers. Because most of the people used the Sinhala language. However, technology facilities have instruction in the English language. Before used technology we want deduct inequality of the language barriers. So language barriers are the one point to digital divide. In Sri Lanka, we can see the digital divide clearly. Because Sri Lanka is a third-world country and this is always a developing country Our motherland can’t. compared with other developed countries. So we can always see the digital divide in the motherland.
