‘Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing’ by Stevie Wonder, a famous American singer-songwriter, is a single released alongside his 1973 album ‘Innervisions’.

Stevie Wonder is a powerhouse of an artist. By his teenage years he was releasing successful singles off the Motown Record Label. His song ‘Fingertips’ made him the youngest artist to top the charts at the age of 13. Soon after, that he released 'Uptight (Everything's Alright)', which really cemented his growing stardom. ‘Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing’ is a very Latin sounding song, featuring crazy vocal overdubs by Stevie Wonder himself. The album this song came out of, ‘Innervisions’, had a primary theme of focusing on all the wrong things about society at that time, such as racism and poverty, especially in big cities. This song was implemented as a counterpoint to that theme, acting as one of the more positive songs featured on that album. Stevie Wonder wrote this song to provide a thematic counterpoint to his rather depressing lyrical content found in that album. This can be further supported by the fact that this is the second to last song featured in the album, really solidifying the deal that he wanted to listeners to end on a good note and to not be too worried by society. His inspiration struck from trying to create a sense of warmth and safety for his listeners, which can be seen in his lyrics. Stevie Wonder did not want to scare away his listeners, but he did want a platform to send his lyrics that dealt with real-life issues. To provide a sense of some comfort to those very realistic issues, this song featured lyrics like “But don't you worry 'bout a thing. Don't you worry 'bout a thing, pretty mama 'cause I'll be standing in the wings, when you check it out” and “Everybody needs a change, a chance to check out the new, but you're the only one to see, the changes you take yourself through”, all which spell a sense of good faith, believing in yourself and keeping your head up.

To conclude this essay, I will say that in my opinion, ‘Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing’ is one of the best Stevie Wonder's songs from his album 'Innervisions'. This song is a Latin infused funk piece, brimming with energy and good faith.
