What is a drug? The drug is a substance that can alter the body’s function either physically or psychologically when taken drug into the body.

There are many factor that contributes to drug addiction. One of the factor is peer pressure. Many people relate to peer pressure strictly with kids and teenagers, it does manifest itself in adults as well. For example, a person who has friends or loved ones who are addicted to or use drugs which will affect that person to follow it. So for those persons who are more likely to use drugs are more likely to choose drug users as friends. Besides that , teenagers see lots of people consuming various substances. When they see their parents and other adults drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and trying other substances. Besides, a teenager’s social scene often revolves around drinking and smoking marijuana. Sometimes friends urge one another to have a drink or smoke, but it’s just as common for teens to start trying a substance because it’s readily available and they see all their friends enjoying it.

The second factor that contributes to drug addiction is genetics. There are as many variables in our individual DNA. This is why siblings always have some differences, some leading to addiction and some not. The above statement shows that genetics do play a role by predisposing you to develop an addiction. According to the American Psychological Association genes are important in addiction – genetic factors contribute to about half of a person’s tendency to become addicted. Our genes have been linked to a quicker reaction to drugs, decreased ability to feel any negative effects, increased euphoria, and quick involvement with repetitive behaviors. So this genetic factor will cause drug users difficult to stop and out of control to the drug.

The third factor is self-medication. Anxiety and depression both greatly increase the risk factors for starting drugs but also influence drug use by making the person more susceptible to other risk factors. For example, taking drugs to feel better or to ‘forget’ about issues is a common reason, but these issues also make users more open to peer pressure, more likely to be taking prescription drugs, and more likely to feel hopeless. When teens are unhappy, but cannot find a healthy way for their frustration, or a trusted confidant, they may turn to chemicals for solace. Depending on what substance they are trying, they may feel blissfully oblivious, happy, and confident. This is why drug users cannot resist because they have the chance to make themselves feel better when taking something.

Since there has a lot of factors that contribute to drug addiction, so preventing early use of drugs may go a long way in reducing these risks. One of the solutions to prevent drug addiction is through education. Drug abuse prevention begins with education, spreading the word regarding the dangers of drugs to everyone, mainly we focus on children because when they are young they already know what is the bad and the effect after taking drug. The government also can hold drug abuse prevention in every school and participate with their parents and community. To be effective, communities need to sustain the progress. If a family member is taking, so parents also hard to prevent their kids from taking drugs, so every parent must be a model for their kids which is will not take drugs.

The second solution is effectively deal with peer pressure. The main reason teenagers start taking drugs is because of their friends all is drug users. So they must either find a better group of friends that would not pressure you doing harmful things, or you need to find a good way to say reject them. Teens should prepare a good excuse or plan ahead of time, to keep from giving into tempting situations. When one of you start taking the drug can turn to addiction rapidly; no one plans on becoming a drug addict or alcoholic. While in active addiction, the only goal possible is to get drugs to feed the addiction. So everyone please don’t try or even get influenced by your friend.

Last but not least, the other solution which can prevent drug addiction, is to start practicing healthier living habits. For example, Exercise, eating well and meditation are excellent ways to avoid using drugs. This is because being a healthy lifestyle can help people deal with life stresses easily and can also manage trauma more easily. This is because exercise can help blood circulation, so everyone can feel more energetic and spiritual. Besides, People take up drugs when something in their life is too boring and not working, or they feel very upset. So everyone must also have a healthy lifestyle and let their life become enriched and useful.
