Disneyland was built on solid morals right from the beginning. As Walt Disney said, “We believed in our idea – a family park where parents and children could have fun together”, and it did not disappoint. Walt had started Disneyland in California so that families could escape the outside world and enjoy themselves. He came up with the concept of Disneyland after visiting various theme parks with his daughters. The park construction began in 1954, and the park was revealed during a televised press event on the ABC television network on July 17th, 1955. Disneyland is an amazing family-friendly amusement park that appeals to all ages, offering superior guest interactions, entertainment at every turn, and memorable experiences for everyone.
One reason Disneyland is an amazing family-friendly amusement park is due to its superior guest interactions. “Here at Disney, we believe a common purpose is instrumental in consistently providing exceptional guest interactions. It is the compass that guides our cast members and inspires them to go above and beyond” (Jones). Walt Disney understood that employees are critical to the success of a business. He said, “Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal”. Walt’s goal was to create a magical environment for all guests. During the interview process, potential employees are told that Disney is a storytelling organization. Employees are expected to pretend they are always ‘on stage’ while working. This means they must maintain a happy, helpful, and cheerful attitude at all times. Employees must be dedicated to making each guest feel special. Little girls are often called ‘princess’ when spoken to by a cast member. They are told to never point with one finger. Instead, they must use their entire hands to indicate a certain direction, which is considered less threatening. Disney made sure to pay attention to every little detail to make sure that every interaction is solemnly created with the guest in mind.
Another reason why Disneyland is a promising amusement park compared to any other is that fact that entertainment will never be far from where you are. They run fireworks nightly during the summer and on their off-season, they run them Friday through Sunday. Each show goes for 20 to 30 minutes. They also have character parades that travel across the whole park all-year round, and they just recently added nightly shows every night. Disney is also known for their characters, always traveling the park. Whether it be Jack Skellington greeting you at the gates or Mickie and Minnie waving at you from across the way, you’ll always see someone out and about. The park also has Character Dining, allowing you and your family to enjoy a meal with your favorite character right at your side. Some more live entertainment Disney provides is their water and light shows that occur nightly, along with the Dapper Dans acapella group, making an appearance every other hour. With a stunning combination of scripted events and spontaneous activities, Disneyland has proven that they can dish out entertainment as long as your family has the energy to keep up.
Lastly, Disneyland is the best amusement park to attend for all the surprise and magic that you can experience. Disney has always been known for bringing stories to life, one example being what took place at the park in 2017. “Johnny Depp surprised fans at Disneyland, by popping up on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ ride in his full Captain Jack Sparrow costume. The actor was waving his cutlass and talking to riders with his patented British slur not far from the animatronic versions of his character that appear throughout the ride” (Williams). An experience like that would be something right out of any Disney-fanatics’ dreams. Another wholesome instance happened earlier this year. “Tom Holland and some of his co-stars surprised fans at Disneyland, and people were understandably thrilled. A video shared by Disneyland Insiders on Facebook shows fans freaking out as Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and more join in on a Spider-Man photo op, only for Spider-Man to remove his mask and reveal himself to be Holland” (Jirak). Most of these wouldn’t be possible without Disney’s own Imagineering Research team. Walt Disney has his own company that is in charge of dreaming, designing and building the parks along with building amazing ride experiences like those listed. Many of Disneyland’s rides build upon classic ride concepts and add a heaping dose of magic to make the experience immersive and unforgettable.
Disneyland has kept itself above the rest with its amazing guest interactions, constant entertainment, and memorable amusement rides. Trips spent at any Disneyland are always fun for the entire family and keeps smiles on the faces of the visitors, even after they have returned home. It has raised the bar for parks and attractions everywhere and never ceases to amaze along the way. As quoted by Walt Disney himself, “The kind of entertainment we create is meant for the entire family”.
