For several years now, I have dreamed of becoming a teacher. Throughout my years at university to now working with children and young people, this dream has never subsided.
I believe that teaching is a vocation and an incredibly rewarding role. Education is of the utmost importance, but I feel being a teacher is much more than this. Not only do teachers educate, but they also support the social and emotional wellbeing of their pupils, this is something I am very passionate about.

I feel particularly passionate about becoming a teacher in a primary school as engaging children in education from an early age can have such a positive impact on their lives, and future education and promote an eagerness for lifelong learning. I still remember my primary school teachers, and they have all had an impact on the way I learn, and I’m sure that they will continue to have this impact when I start my teacher training.
I understand from my own experiences so far, that a role in teaching can be a demanding one. From planning lessons to marking, liaising with parents, and other aspects of important paperwork and record keeping. I am aware that these tasks need to be completed thoroughly, and to a high standard but I pride myself on strong organization and time management skills. Having considered the demands, I still believe that the rewards of teaching far outweigh these. My own experience has shown me that teaching is fun, and the ability to be creative with the planning and delivery of lessons is rewarding for me and the pupils in my class. My experiences have also taught me that every day is different, something which also appeals to me. Lastly, and most importantly, I am looking forward to building positive relationships with my pupils. I believe this is key for building a passion for learning, and for supporting their social and emotional wellbeing.
I feel sure that I have the right attributes to begin a career in teaching. I pride myself on excellent communication skills. I enjoy working collectively with others and think it is important to not only share my ideas but to listen well to advice and guidance to learn and grow. However, I am also confident when left to complete individual tasks. My work life so far has taught me patience and empathy when dealing with certain challenges such as behavior and I have proven to be adaptable should plan during my working day change. I also believe in contributing to the school outside of the classroom. I feel I could achieve this by playing an active part in breakfast clubs, after-school clubs, and charity events such as concerts and plays. This would further develop a positive relationship between myself and the children and their families.
Lastly, I believe I am suited to a career in teaching as I understand the impact a child’s welfare can have on their education. I understand that there can be circumstances in a child’s and their family's lives that can make school and education more challenging to cope with on their own, this would in turn affect their engagement. I would reflect on my own experiences and refer to the school's welfare and safeguarding procedures and along with the children, their families, and my colleagues I would discuss how best to remove any barriers to learning by providing the right support for all involved.
