Death of a Salesman was written by Arthur Miller. Arthur Miller was an American playwright and essayist in 20th-century American Theater He was born on October 17, 1915, in Harlem, New York, United States, and died at the age of 89 years old, February 10, 2005. Arthur’s father was Isidore Miller and her mother was Augusta Miller. Arthur Miller was also the author of “The Crucible” and “All My Sons” these are some of his famous plays. Arthur Miller graduated from the University of Michigan. Arthur’s wife is Marilyn Monroe. This play was directed by Volker Schlondorff. Volker Schlondorff was born on March 31, 1939. He is a German Film Maker, He works in Germany, France, and the United States. This play was filmed in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Boston. The date of the production was September 15, 1985, under the production company, Roxbury and Punch Production.
Willy Loman works as a traveling salesman, His wife was Linda Loman. Willy and Linda have two children Biff Loman the older and Happy Loman the younger. Willy Loman’s wife is worried because he had a car accident in the past. Willy Loman asks his boss Howard Wagner if he can allow Willy to work in his home city to avoid a car accident and will not have to travel far. Happy is temporarily living with their parents Willy and Linda, while Biff returns from the west without informing her mom that he will go home. Biff and Happy were reminiscing about their childhood together, while their father was angry because of them because they have nothing to prove in their lives to make their father proud, unlike others. The next day Willy goes to his boss Willy Howard to ask if he’s allowing Willy to work in their home city and Biff will go to a business proposition but they both fail. Willy gets fired by his boss Howard Wagner, his boss said that Willy needs to rest and he can no longer represent the company. Willy goes to their neighbor’s office Charley, and he sees Charley’s son Bernard now a successful lawyer, Bernard tells Willy that Biff wants to go to a Summer School to make up for his failure in mathematics. Charley gives Willy Loman money to pay for his life insurance premium but Willy refuses the money. Willy called his children to meet him at the restaurant for dinner, when Biff will tell his father the bad news that he fails Willy refuses to hear it but Biff was tried to tell him what happened, Willy gets angry and mentioned the past when Biff call his dad a liar and fraud because her dad was getting an affair of the receptionist in the hotel room, because of Biff’s unexpectedly arrived in his dad’s hotel room. Biff leaves the restaurant and Happy follows him. When Willy arrives at their home Willy and Biff fight instead of talking to each other, but when their stop fighting Willy and Biff hugged each other and Biff tell his dad to let go of unrealistic expectation, then after that the next day Linda cries out when she hears Willy’s car blares up and fade out, Willy commits suicide to make Biff get his money insurance to start his business. At the funeral only Willy's family, Charley and Bernard attended. In the end, Biff doesn’t want to be a businessman like his father, but Happy decides to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a businessman.
In acting and directing I can say that it was good, the actors are great and it suits their character. They delivered the scene perfectly and their acting was great and it looks realistic. In directing they delivered it clearly to make the viewers understand the story easily, anyone can watch this because it’s easy to understand and the background music is good and their editing skills are unique.
The costumes are good because the costumes describe the character’s scenes and in Lightning, it was good because we can see the character. In audio, it’s perfect because we can hear them clearly and we can understand what they say and the place suits the scene and their life in the story.
The story is meaningful and it’s easy to understand and the story will give you a lesson. This story is one of the meaningful stories and it has a sense, this is not just about the Death of a salesman but also your future of yours, the sacrifices of your loved ones, and the value of your dreams to be successful in the future, I can say that they deserve all the awards that they receive and this story deserves to be shared to students to get inspired to chase their dreams and appreciate every small thing.
