At the start of Twelve Angry Men we are introduced to a varying cast of Jurors. The case is a matter of life and death for a young boy. The book begins with a vote of 11-1 in favor of guilty and ends 12-0 in favor of not guilty. From this, it is determined that the jury started out with prejudice and false ideas and deliberately reflected on the case until they discovered the certain truth. The jury is in no way in a position to establish whether or not or now not the defendant is innocent. Instead they discover doubt, adequate doubt that they do not experience that the proof is ample to convict the defendant past a practical doubt. The only person in the room who felt the boy could be not guiltily was Juror 8. He defended this claim well, to the dismay of the other jurors. Most of the Jurors think very similar to Juror Three, “I definitely think this is one of them open and shut things.#11” These jurors favor certainty, because doubt can motivate conflict. As Juror Six tells it to Juror Eight, 'Suppose you discuss us outta this and the kid sincerely did knife his father?#30' Yet, as the jurors delve into their doubts, evidence that appeared strong comes into question.
Once they are all taking the proof seriously, the jurors begin to question the unreliability of the witnesses, like the old man and the woman on the other side tracks. Some jurors be a part of Juror Eight’s aspect such as Juror Five when he virtually claims, “I’d like to exchange my vote to not guilty.#37” For Juror Three, who is positive of the defendant’s guilt, the eyewitness stories are infallible, even after doubt is raised over whether or not the ancient man downstairs or the girl throughout the tracks could perhaps have viewed and heard what they said they did. For jurors like Juror Four, though, the older man’s testimony leaves them uncertain. While Juror Five is not satisfied that the old man lied, he has doubts about the old man’s testimony, and Juror Five is the 3 juror to switch his vote from guilty to not guilty. Slowly but surely the jurors make constant progress toward increased simple task in consideration of the evidence. The jurors who change their votes do not express confidence in their new vote either.
As the jurors begin to admit doubt in the case they also change their prejudices and viewpoints. At first, the jurors make judgments about each other and people of different backgrounds. Their simple task about the fact of their personal views makes them impolite to the other jurors. As they admit their doubts about the case, a lot of them begin to alternate their stances. The juror’s claims are shifted now not solely with the aid of the arguments and the evidence, but due to the fact the jurors are forced to reflect on their doubts that they have hidden behind their personal prejudices. Juror Ten’s prejudices are revealed when he yells, “They’re violent, they’re vicious, they’re ignorant, and they will cut us up.#65” As the jurors come to be greater satisfied in admitting doubt, they cease to treat every different pretty as an awful lot like classes or types and treat each other, instead, as individual people.
