Homework has been around since the early 20th century. “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruits are sweet”. This quotation reminds us that success is really hard to achieve and the road is long. However, there are times that I want to contest the message of the quotation, especially when education is involved. A person needs to achieve certain goals in one life before you can call them successful. Hard work is the most important key to success.
Homework is widely known as an educational activity whose primary purpose is to help students improve their performances, however, some studies showed that assignments have a negative impact on students’ social lives, and more assignments increase stress levels and physical problems.

The ‘No Homework Policy’ issue has caught our attention and become the topic of some debates/surveys. I agree with this policy for some reasons. Firstly, it will lessen the stress that students are experiencing. Each individual’s level of understanding and academic performance is different. Having a lot of homework creates stress for students. Students who are performers will treat each school day as an easy one, but that will not be the same for average learners, especially for the struggling ones. They have to exert more effort to understand the lesson. Emotional quotients will be affected as well during the times that they will be called in front of the class but will not be able to answer. It lowers our self-esteem and sometimes we consider that as one of the worst nightmares. Secondly, they don’t have time for relaxation after school. We want to spend more time with friends and family. After a tiring day in school, it’s always nice to release all your worries with the people you’re happy to be with. It gives you a break and time to recharge before dealing with your academic issues. Lastly, students are worried about their grades if they fail or pass. There is a lot of pressure on all students. Also, they are afraid to disappoint their parents. If parents get exhausted when they’re overworked, students can also experience burnout. Students have shown that when students are tired, they can’t focus and perform tasks. Most of the assignments are not done by students, which is unfair to those who are really honest with the task. It’s not the problem of those who are doing the task or not, it’s the question of integrity. I am not against giving assigned tasks because it’s really part of a student’s growth in different aspects. In my opinion, homework should never replace a teaching opportunity in a classroom.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that students should not have any homework. It saves time, we already do the school lessons, and it’s tiring. Children should do the vast majority of their work during school lessons, not at home. That’s better for teachers, better for parents, and better for students.
