Imagine this, You are at home peacefully sleeping and you hear the noises of tractors, cars, and gunfire. You are completely horrified and shocked when you see the damage coming closer and closer. You realize that it's only a few meters away from your home. You don’t know what to do, so you run. You run so far you don’t know where you are and before you know it you’re in a cage. My fellow community members, this is what it would be like if we just put ourselves in the “shoes” of an animal. Thank you members of the community for being here. I’m Mya Williams-Orcher your fellow community member and I am passionate about banning deforestation. I have created a new campaign called Defend The Forest. I am here to speak about this topic with you because there are so many species that have already gone extinct due to deforestation. Worse than this is that there are so many more animals that are close to extinction. It's my passion and love for animals that has empowered me on this mission to stop any more animals from becoming extinct and with your help, provide a sustainable environment for future generations to see. One day wouldn't you like for your children to be able to visually see these animals, rather than them looking in books and online? Seeing them in real life in their natural habitat gives them a better insight into these creatures. Stopping deforestation for the next generation.
The Amazon Rainforest covers only 6% of the world but is home to 30-40% of the earth's animal species. It is a very biodiverse forest, as it is the largest rainforest on the planet with a length of 2,300,00 square miles. More than 20% of our oxygen is produced by it.

Cutting down the Amazon means loss of habitat and loss of life. Some of these animals include Tigers, Monkeys, leopards, birds, and thousands more. The animals that are on the verge of extinction don’t just disappear completely, they slowly die off over several years if they do not adapt to their new habitat and that leads to a staggering number of 50,000 species every year. Unfortunately, not many people seem to care. We as humans are still demanding more urbanization for example roads, buildings, houses, etc.
The soil that sits beneath the Amazon is known to be fertile land which is rich for farming leading to more destruction of the Amazon. It's very sad to say but humans look for what profit they can make rather than looking after what is currently the home of many animals. It's why it is important for us as humans to stand together and protect what is important and protect the forest and no more deforestation.
Due to Paper being one of the humans' main sources of, it has led to the need for trees of the biggest resources, it has led to a lot of cutting down of trees. It's important to think about what we can always build and make, we need to look at environmentally friendly resources that do not impact our planet very badly.
When we think about reconstruction, we can always build what is needed, but it's very difficult to reconstruct an Amazon that has been around for many many years. We use axes, Fires, and Machines to chop down the trees without thinking about the animals that need them. We don’t even clear the area What if someone did that to you? How would you feel? To have everything you once knew taken away from you within a blink.
Deforestation also contributes to Climate change. Did you know that around 46 - 58 thousand hectares of the Amazon are cut down a year, This means every year more carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas is released into the atmosphere. This causes the atmosphere to warm up because carbon dioxide traps Infrared rays of sunlight and the only way to cool the air down is with trees. Scientists have even found out that Earth has more room for 1 trillion more trees, so why don’t we plant them? It would help the animals that are homeless and it would also help us.
This is why I have started this campaign Defend The Forest to speak for those who don’t have voices. This campaign is about bringing hope to animals that have been affected by deforestation, to give their homes back by achieving a ban on deforestation, and by planting more trees for the environment. You can help by spreading awareness, donating to organizations that try to stop deforestation, having less demand for things that can be reconstructed, and planting more trees. If we all do this I truly believe that we can make a difference for these animals and for ourselves.
We are the ones who started this and we must fix it before it's too late. Stopping deforestation for the next generation.
