Picture relaxing just before bed, getting ready for the next morning. Then all of a sudden you feel this big push against the ship. Everyone is saying it is nothing because the Titanic cannot sink, but the next thing you know you are floating in a rescue boat watching everything you had sinking to the bottom of the ocean. What happened? What caused the “unsinkable ship” to sink to the bottom of the ocean? There is nothing more confusing than finding who was responsible for the Titanic.

The Titanic was built in Liverpool England. About 3,000 men out of 1,400 employed at Harland and Wolff shipyard built the Titanic. It cost over 7.5 million dollars to build the Titanic. The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the way to New York. It was the first time the Titanic had set sail and was also the last time, too. Titanic sank on April 15, 1915; over 1,503 people were lost and 705 people survived. Most of the people got away with the 16 wooden lifeboats they provided, that’s enough to accommodate 1,178 people and that’s only one-third of the Titanic’s capacity. Others drowned in the freezing water as the boat went down. It took the Titanic 2 hours and 40 minutes to sink; it sunk too fast for the icy conditions they were in. They called it an “ event cascade.”

Was it really the Titanic that sank or was it the sister ship Olympic? In the book “Titanic-The Ship that Never Sank,” written by Robin Gardiner, it says that the Olympics crashed before the Titanic was finished being built and was blamed for the crash so they never got the insurance payment. So scientists believe it was an insurance scam. The Olympics and Titanic were owned by Star Line Co. which was owned by the International Mercantile Marine Co. so they decided to fix up the Olympics the best they could and sail it instead, that way when it crashed they could collect the insurance payment. That’s just the main reason why scientists think that the Titanic didn’t sink, there are more mysteries to solve. One passenger believed that the Titanic was sinkable, he knew one big “appalling disaster” would happen because nothing is permanent.

Out of all the survivors from the crash, Eva Hart believed that they lied, too. When Thames News interviewed Eva Hart she said she saw a boat, the SS Californian, about 9 miles away, but the ship’s crew said it was 19 miles away. She didn’t believe it, even if it was 19 miles away, they would have seen the help rockets the Titanic’s crew shot in the air, but instead, the other ship thought it was a “party.” The SS Californian was criticized for ignoring the Titanic.

In the Thisisinsider article, the Titanic received six warnings about the iceberg which was spotted at 11:40 pm on April 14 (the day before the crash), but no one believed it; because the only way to see was using binoculars. The only binoculars were locked away in a special room and the only person who had the key quit the Titanic just days before it set sail. On the same day the lifeboat drill was canceled, but also for unknown reasons, First Officer William McMaster Murdoch ordered the ship to turn, but it was too late. The Titanic wouldn’t have sunk if it had hit the iceberg head-on.

Why did workers lie about it being the Titanic? Did they believe they were hiding secrets along the ships such as the iceberg just helping the Titanic go down? Scientists discovered that at the bottom of the ship there was a fire to help the ship keep going. They would burn up to 600 tons of coal a day. So making the Titanic turn into an iceberg and it hitting the part where burns softened the metal on the boat and it tore a lot easier than suspected. The Titanic’s crew decreased the number of lifeboats because the deck looked crowded. If they would have kept all the lifeboats they would have been able to save everyone aboard the Titanic. It wasn’t supposed to end up that bad, it was supposed to be a small crash close to a boat that was going to help them get everyone off and safe. They lied so no one found out it wasn’t the “unsinkable ship” and that they only wanted the money.

What else have we believed from history? Yes, all these events happened, but not every word we hear or read can be true. We weren’t there when it all happened and all we have is the internet that is brainwashing everyone to believe what they see, instead of the truth. Because maybe it wasn’t even the iceberg that took down the Titanic.
