According to the United Nations about the Water of life research in 2013, “more than one billion people are lack of using and drinking clean water on the earth.” Currently, the shortage of water is a serious problem. Many areas around the world are lack of using clean water so people usually suffer from starving. Water pollution, overpopulation, and climate change are the three main causes of water shortages. First, water pollution is one cause of water scarcity. “The sources of water pollution include pesticides and fertilizers that wash away from farms, industrial and human waste that is directly dumped into rivers.” (George, 2015). Water pollution usually occurs when many harmful chemicals and materials flow into the rivers, lakes, and oceans.
When this happens, the environment under the water will become toxic for the aquatic species to live and they will die so people can not have enough fish to eat. Furthermore, water pollution will reduce the water resources that it is not enough for people to drink and use in daily life, for instances: there are about two thirds of people who live in Vietnam don’t have enough clean water to use because the water resources are being polluted by local industries. Next, overpopulation is another cause of water shortages. Overpopulation is a reason that cause the shortages of water because there are more and more people live on the Earth, there will occur more usages of water.
Currently, the demands of using water has become higher than before in urban and remote areas. Thus, the water resources are so precious that leads to one of the controversial problems which are being discussed at international conferences every time. “With the current consumption rate, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages by 2025.”() This shows that when the population around the world is still increasing at a rapid rate, the demand for the water resources on the amount of fresh water sources. Last but not least, climate change is another reason that causes the water scarcity. As the earth’s temperature continues to rise, there will be a significant impact on our fresh water supplies with the potential for devastating effects on these resources. When the temperatures increase, so then the evaporation will increases and then will have the droughts around the world, for example:
“The United States is currently in one of the most severe, multi-state, multi-year droughts in decades.” Furthermore, the rising temperatures are melting glacial ice at an unpredictable rate. Glaciers are an important source of freshwater worldwide, however, there are many great resources, like the Glacier National Parks, which are famous for showing how beautiful the glaciers are, under the danger of disappearing because of the climate change has been a serious problem. If these glaciers have melted away, they can’t be restored. Areas that previously depended on glaciers for freshwater will then have to seek other sources.
In conclusion, water pollution, overpopulation, and climate change are three main causes of the water shortages. We have to take the immediate actions to save water in our daily life, such as: we have to turn off the taps as soon as we finish using the water, take showers in a short time. By using these methods in our daily life, I think we can save enough water and our world will become better.
