To start out, we live in a democracy and republic based on what we believe in, but a democracy is a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and in some cases, it can even be directed by the people, so we vote for who runs the government. I feel that democracy is a good state of government and it keeps us in order and helps our country thrive as we go into new things, like changing our lifestyle to fit what the government wants or what they think will help us develop as a community.
The three main characteristics of democracy are; Choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections, which happen every four years and we elect who we think would fit our state's expectations. Next is, Active participation of the people, in life, this is meaning we as the people need to be active in politics and the importance of our government. Lastly, protection of the human rights of all citizens, and we need protection in our lives and to also make us feel safe in our country. Democracy is stone because it doesn't come straight from power, I believe that it comes from who creates the power and who uses the power wisely. For example, in Planet of the Apes, when Koba got the opportunity to have the power they abused it and thought it was the right decision or the decision only he wanted, Caesar took in the power and made sure it was what his family wanted as well.
Democracy is a good and bad thing based on what the situation is, there's a lot of pros to democracy like, it encourages pearl involvement because people get to vote for who they want or who they believe in. Also, there is equality, other forms of government like monarchy has a king or queen and they don't have people vote for who they want but they decide on their own and basically make all the decisions for what they want. As a democracy there is so much equality, it doesn't matter what gender, race, or even religion you are, you get to vote if you're old enough. Lastly, it stops exploitation, meaning if you are an individual with all the power you're at high risk, there are more checks and balances and all that you still need to keep your county from falling apart.
Although there are a lot of pros to having a democracy, so of it can be too much like, it requires voters to be well informed to be effective during voting, this means if you are old enough to vote that doesn't mean you should if you don't know anything about politics and who is more reasonable to be our president. You at least need to know how they are going to affect you, either in a good way or bad. Next, it is costly, which means every vote that is taken in democracy is $544 million lost productivity occurs during a US election. For other governments, if they don't have the people vote for them then it wouldn't sot them a penny. Lastly, this process of voting requires a lot of time, by making changes to legislation, means legislation can extend beyond one year quite frequently. It takes time and effort to make sure that all people have what they need in order to be successful in life.
In conclusion, democracy is most of the part a good form of government that will keep our community from falling apart. It is one of the most important parts of our lives and our community wouldn't run without it. Yes, there are a lot of other forms of government that we haven't experienced yet, and who knows maybe we would like to have monarchy or oligarchy as a form of government but for now, I like how we get a say in something and knowing that we are the ones making the call for whom rules and helps us become a more stable community.
