Mexico is located on the North American terrain and shares borders with the United States in the north and Belize and Guatemala in the south. Mexico possesses mountains in the eastern and northern regions of the country, rainforests in the southern and eastern regions and deserts in the western regions. Most of the more prominent urban zones are arranged in the southern bits of the country. Of course, there is Christmas and New Years to celebrate but there is another famous holiday on January 6th of every year. January 6 is the feast of the Epiphany, also known as the Day of the Holy Kings. It is celebrated in remembrance of the biblical story of the three kings' visit to Jesus. On this special day, many citizens bake or buy an oval, donut shaped bread. Depending on the size, there are little baby figures hidden inside to represent Jesus. If you receive a piece of bread with one inside, symbolically it means you are Jesus’ godparent therefore you must sponsor a party on February 2nd, another holiday. Even if you aren’t religious, the bread is still an appetizing dessert.
Some native Mexican dishes are Pozole (a pre-Hispanic soup that was once used as part of ritual sacrifices), Tacos al Pastor (one of the most popular varieties of tacos, with origins dating back to the 1920s and 30s and the arrival of Lebanese and Syrian immigrants to Mexico), Elote (the Mexican name for corn on the cob and it can be found on nearly every city street corner in Mexico), Enchiladas (stuffed tortillas that are covered in chili sauce), Mole (pronounced ‘mol-eh’), a popular sauce in Mexican cooking) , and Guacamole (made from mashed-up avocadoes, onions, tomatoes, lemon juice and chili peppers (and sometimes a clove or two of garlic). Guacamole is often eaten with tortilla chips or used as a side dish).
Mexico is a beautiful place, with plenty of history, beautiful beaches and has many traditions. Mexico may not be the safest place on earth but it is one of the places in the world that has the potential to get better. I’ve been to Cozumel, Mexico and Costa Maya, Mexico they are really beautiful places that I hope to visit again. The people are very nice and respectful though their main language is Spanish most can speak English. Mexico is a place I would recommend you to visit and I guarantee you will enjoy your stay.
