Have you ever thought that something not good happened to you and thought after, “Life is just so unfair”? Personally, I would also think of that, but not as frequently as others. But I do believe that everything in life happens for a reason, and even if life is unfair sometimes, it is for a good reason. A psychologist, author, and researcher by the name of John M. Grohol stated in one of his articles that “Life is a never-ending game of learning”. This means that when something bad happens to you, it happens for a reason, a good reason, it’s a way of our chance to develop and learn how the world is, our ways, and others.
Life being unfair happens for a good reason, everything happens for a reason, as stated by a spiritual counselor named Gary Zuvac. “Consider the ‘bad’ event in your life as a wake-up call to truly appreciate your life as it was”. So bad things that happen to us are a way for us to see that life is definitely full of challenges and that you should still be able to appreciate it because you are still alive and continue to develop maturely.
But if you still think that life is unfair in a negative way, then that must be changed. Because from an article titled ‘Why me?’ at the website called Project Self, written by the author Andrea, a statement on her behalf in her article is: “I’ve realized now that life isn’t about getting lucky and having no challenges, you can be happy no matter what your life situation is”. She’s sending us the message that life isn’t all about good luck, good memories, or having an easy life all over. Because then, if there weren’t any challenges that will come across you, then what’s the point of life? But saying that you have a miserable life and that you will not experience happiness again is false because, despite your situation, you can still be able to light a candle over the darkness that you’re being surrounded with because, after all, it is your choice to see.
An example that life is unfair for a good reason and is the way of development is the life story of Oprah Winfrey. Her childhood was not exactly the best, she was mocked, sexually abused, and lived in great poverty. But, in her teenage and college years, she started taking an interest in journalism and was transferred to a program where it slowly became her own show, i.e. ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, which proved to be the most successful and used it as a platform to focus on cultural discrimination, self-improvement, spirituality, and the LGBT community. She became a role model for women, especially for black women. She used her past, her difficult and terrible past, to be a base for her own self-improvement and for others. As she said, “Turn your wounds into wisdom”.
I conclude that everything in life happens for a reason, and even if life is unfair, it is for a good reason because it helps us to develop and become a better version of ourselves. It happens for a good reason, not for no reason. It is our call to accept and take the challenges thrown at us so that we can become stronger.
