During the first 13 weeks of studying at Victoria University, specifically an integrated business-challenged unit, I was put into a group of four people who have different cultural backgrounds. The most significant thing is that we did learn to understand, respect, and accept each other’s through team working. Working together is making us work more effectively. My experience of this leads me to believe that teamwork can help us solve problems quickly and come up with more innovative ideas as well. Besides, Helen Keller once said very accurately about teamwork, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” (Megan Conley, 2018).
There are three main reasons why teamwork plays a vital role in my learning process and even positively impacting on my future career. Firstly, in my perspective, being involved in group work helps me improve my problem-solving skills that is one of the top five abilities occasionally looked for by employers, because leaders can delegate the task to each member depending on their strengths and desirable to finish the individual task more efficiently and find out more solutions. Secondly, my other soft skills have been developed during preparing for oral projects presentation thanks to the deeper connection between teamwork and them, such as communication skills and presentation skills. Finally, team building increased my level of confidence and trust when my teammates and I can overcome obstacles and collaborate.

This concept of teamwork is valuable for me since it helps me gain more experience to realize how much the development of the group relied on Tuckman’s five theoretical stages as ‘forming’, ‘storming’, ‘norming’, ‘performing’, ‘adjourning’ (toggl.com). Besides, personally, working together is a soft skill that can build trust among teammates, solve conflicts, and gather more creative ideas. Although the results of checking the appropriate roles of each member of my team are very similar, which means one leader, three achievers, and two thinkers, we recognized working in a multicultural group is a strength. I learned from the working styles and culture of other members that might bring benefits to me in the future if I work at an international company.
In this course, understanding clearly how teamwork, can be extremely useful for me to apply throughout studying Diploma and Bachelor of Business, and especially in my future career. As playing an achiever, I hopefully have an opportunity to be a leader because having leadership skills are helpful so that I could be more confident, responsible, and manage my time. Furthermore, it is incredibly grateful to me trying to be a leader who is in charge of developing the strength and power of the organization and in helping to control resources and relationships with employees and customers.
