A smartwatch is a digital media’s revolution which is moving generations forward. A smartwatch is a wearable computer as a wristwatch, replacing old fashioned watches which were made for only one purpose that is to watch time. Smartwatches provide a local touch screen interface for daily use, while an associated smartphone app provides for management and telemetry. Modern smartwatches contain a lot of features, such as sensors, compass, storage, extended battery life, waterproof, they have built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth systems, plus they come in a variety of styles while early models could perform basic tasks, such as calculations, digital time telling, translations, and game-playing. 2010s smartwatches have more general functionality closer to smartphones, including mobile apps, a mobile operating system and Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth connectivity. Some smartwatches function as portable media players, with FM radio and playback of digital audio and video files via a Bluetooth headset. While interior equipment changes, most have an electronic visual presentation, either illuminated LCD or OLED.
World’s first smartwatch was invented and designed by Steve Mann in 1998, a Canadian engineer and professor. After presenting the watch, he was rightfully hailed as the ‘father of wearable computing’, a very deserving title considering his work in the field. Of course, Mann has made a host of other significant contributions to modern technology, including being the first to develop modern HDR imaging methods.

There are specialty smartwatches built especially for sailing enthusiasts, helping them track variables such as speed, wind direction and wind speed.
After the invention of smartwatches, not only jobs were opened but businesses also flourished. Apple, which was already in the market, shows interest towards this innovation. Apple knows wearable technologies will have a huge future so they invested a lot on this side. Since 2013, the list of companies that were engaged in smartwatch development activities consists of Acer, Apple, BlackBerry, Google, LG, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony, and Toshiba. Some notable omissions from this list include HP, HTC, Lenovo, and Nokia. This invention created a lot of job roles in content development. There will be a huge demand for professionals, such as information systems engineer, cyber security analyst, demand forecast analyst, finance analyst, designers, marketers, retailers, etc. A modern smartwatch operates on both Apple’s iOS and Android operating system so application developers got an opportunity to build more applications like navigation apps, translation apps, ApplePay, apps for streaming music and live radios.
