‘Toy Story 4’ is a computer-animated comedy film that was released on 21st June 2019 by Walt Disney Pictures. The film has a universal rating meaning that the film is suitable for all audiences aged four and over. Perhaps Disney did this to increase their target audience which in turn would increase their revenue. This was a successful idea as the film earned a total box office of £472,006,982.54 by 18th June 2021. Led by the director Josh Cooley, a professional in his field, he has enchanted the film which may be the reason the film has an astonishing 97 % review rate on Rotten Tomatoes.

The primary target audience for ‘Toy Story 4’ is 10 to year-olds. This target audience is perfect for ‘Toy Story 4’, as research shows that since 2019, the average amount of time children between the ages of 4 and 10 spend in front of the TV has increased dramatically. In addition, Ofcom has proven that children between the ages of 4 and 10 watch an average of 13.5 hours of TV per week. Finally, as the purpose of ‘Toy Story 4’ is to entertain this target audience is good as children usually stay engaged in a plot for longer than adults. The secondary audience for ‘Toy Story 4’ is the parent or carer who takes the child to watch the movie. The smart move by Disney again increases sales as it grows the amount of the views that the film gets. Adult and carers will most likely not lose interest while watching the film as the total duration is only 1 hour and 40 minutes.

‘Toy Story 4’ has a catchy, astonishing plot instantly catching the reader’s eye. Additionally, the vivid thumbnail further engages the reader as they are intrigued by the colors. Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the group go on a road trip with Forky (a new member) and Bonnie. The journey turns into a reunion as Woody sees his old friend Bo Peep. When they start discussing the old days, they realize that they are far apart when it comes to what they want from life as a toy. The vibrant colors used in the film makes it enjoyable to watch. Additionally, there is no bad language used in the whole of the film again making it suitable for all age groups. The film ends with Woody leaving his child behind to live a life with Bo Peep. This ending is perfect as it appeals the viewer due to the emotional farewell.

The film uses multiple famous actors to voice over the main characters of the film helping engage the viewer as they already have built up a relationship which the actors. For example, Buzz Lightyear was voiced by Tim Allen, a famous comedian known for voicing over characters for multiple films.

The script of ‘Toy Story 4’ was written by Andrew Stanton and Stephany Folsom. The astonishing film took a colossal 4-5 years to be produced due to the amazing effects that Pixar decided to add to enhance the film. Story artists made sketches for each scene in the movie so the Pixar team have an idea of how each scene will play out. For ‘For Story 4’ the designs of characters involved lots of research into toys. The character team also got inspiration from trips to antique shops where they often found dolls in the corner. Each character also has an authentic finish making them look realistic, not fake. Every shot in ‘Toy Story 4’ took approximately 4 and a half months due to characters and settings having to be animated repeatedly. These scenes were first taken in 2D until the illustrators were happy with their finished product. This 2D animation was then translated into 3D by using a computer software and then added textures which added finer details making it a pleasure for the viewer to watch as they got to see more precise details. Pixar next set up the characters to be animated (they start out as skeletons). Finally, all the images start to get animated on the computer by using combinations of computer software programs. The animation then has color added to it, shadows and digital effects and music and sound effects to go along with it. These finishing touches intrigue the viewer as they add an extra layer of advancement.
