Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. Taking part and volunteering in community service, teaches me compassion and understanding. You do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes food and small gifts, like a t-shirt, are given to volunteers. It can also help any group of people in need such as children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and more by providing them some services. It can also help animals, such as those at a shelter, and it can be used to improve places, such as a local park, historic building, or scenic area as well. Community service is often organized through a local group, such as a place of worship, school, or non-profit organization, and can also start a community service by ourselves.

If I could start my own community service, I would like to do a legal clinic by providing free legal aid services to the public. The purpose of legal clinics is to help the poor and the needy gain access to justice because most of the individuals come from poor educational backgrounds and are unaware of their legal rights and the availability of welfare benefits to alleviate their suffering. Legal clinic is a program where law students and lawyers can provide legal advice to indigent people voluntarily. Establishing a legal clinic can help indigent people avoid going to court by explaining their personal problems to them and providing advice to them.

Apart from that, legal aid services are available for those who are often denied access to justice due to lack of income. But there is some person who under special circumstances will qualify for legal aid services such as a person who have been accused of a crime, a person who is poor or needy, a person who is a victim of domestic violence, a person with a household income which is less than a certain percentage, the person who is disabled, the person who is an immigrant, the person who involves in a civil rights issue, and the person who suffer from discrimination with low-income. Other than that, indigent people, the elderly, disabled people, and members of the military will also qualify for legal aid services.

By establishing a legal clinic, volunteers can empower the helpless with the legal knowledge they have by providing free legal consultation to those who need help in the areas of law. Besides that, it can also provide assistance in case research, drafting legal arguments, and providing some advice on personal cases to indigent people. The volunteers can provide free non-litigation commercial legal assistance to non-profit organizations such as charities, voluntary welfare, and social enterprises with limited or no financial resources to pay for legal assistance.

Community service is important to volunteers because it can provide students and other individuals with the opportunity to participate in the community and can have a positive impact on society. This can also enable students and other individuals to acquire life skills and knowledge. Other than that, having community service projects can let students and other individuals develop real-world skills that will help them succeed in the future. This can also help them practice leadership skills, problem-solving skills, collaboration skills, time management, and ways of communicating with other people. In a legal clinic, volunteers can build on existing legal skills where junior lawyers can find themselves when doing legal aid services with more client contact or responsibility than they are used to. It can also help the volunteers increase their organizational and management skills such as scheduling, and liaising with other organizations. Apart from that, volunteers that do community service in a legal clinic can also enhance their communication skills, and problem-solving skills when they need to solve the problem given by the client using their knowledge. Volunteers can also train their eloquence where sometimes they might meet some of the clients who are stubborn and do not accept other people's opinions.

The efforts that make the biggest difference by volunteer lawyers and law students is that they provide legal aid services to the public voluntarily and without payment. They volunteer themselves in a legal clinic and then use their professional skills to provide services to those who are unable to afford a lawyer. For example, the Pro Bono program. This program is used in the legal profession where it performs free-of-charge legal services for the public. The purpose of providing free legal services is to give assistance to people who are unable to afford legal representation and access to the court system. Providing free legal aid services to indigent people can ensure that everyone can access justice easily with the help of a professional lawyer and can help those indigent people fight back for their rights.

The benefit of having community service is that it can help me to make new friends and connect with others. This allows me to connect with the community by helping out in an organization in need and committing to an activity together. It can also increase my social and relationship skills where I have a chance to meet a group of people with common interests. Apart from that, volunteering can increase self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction this can give me a sense of pride and identity and can help me to have a positive view of my life and future goals. Moreover, it can also help me to advance my career where volunteering can help me get experience in my area of interest and meet people in the same field. It also gives me the opportunity to practice some of the important skills used in the workplace such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, project planning, task management, and organization. The benefit of becoming a volunteer lawyer or law student in the legal clinic is it may allow me to know more people and have more contact. Besides that, it allows me to build up my self-confidence level by exposing me to different kinds of cases and legal problems.

The reason why schools should require student to perform community service is that it can change their perspective. This will make them see a change in their lives and also open their selfish little eyes to the world outside of their own. It can also build a virtuous character in a student where it may establish selflessness and diligence. Further, it can help the student to learn how to manage their time and can also connect them to the real world can give them a better view of what is going on in the real world outside of their school life. The requirement for students to perform community service at school can help them to improve their image where students who work as volunteers may gain an understanding of their self-worth. Requiring students to have community service may create respectful, smart, courageous, and protean young adults and can help them understand the importance of community service.

The reason why schools should not require students to perform community service is that students might try to fill the minimum level that is needed which misdirects the purpose of community service which also makes it a problem of morality. Besides that, students have no time to do community service due to they have many things to do after school such as work, homework, and sports.

However, as a law student, I can join a legal clinic during the summer holiday for community service which can help to build writing skills and communication skills.

In conclusion, starting a community service is good because it can help others, help improve my community, meet new friends, result in personal growth, and help me gain work experience and learn more about certain jobs.
