For my written task I have chosen to write a travel article about my hometown of Miami, Florida. I want to focus on the vast amount of activities one can do there. I also want to focus on the cultural aspect of it as Miami has a large Hispanic community and see how it integrates with American society and culture. In this article I will attempt to showcase why Miami is one of the best cities in the world; give all the necessary information to tempt newcomers to discover the city. This task closely corresponds to Part 2: ‘The Language of Mass communication’; this relates to the fact that this travel article is to interest the reader through persuasive language, to allow for an enjoyable reading experience. This written task is also a chance for me to share my knowledge of Miami as I have lived there for 8 years of my life and have seen a lot when it comes to this city. For this task I will take a more informative approach to my language, I want the reader to easily understand and I do not believe the language needed to describe Miami has to be complex and well-developed; as Miami is a city of many cultures and languages, I prefer to keep it simple.
Miami is one of the craziest cities one can visit, the city ranges from white sandy beaches, a crystal blue ocean, swimming with sharks to dancing with the Kardashians to holding alligators in the middle of the swamp land, it is truly amazing the different activities you can do there. However, what attracts most people to Miami is the flashy lifestyle that millions grave to get a taste of. Miami beach once populated with aging retirees is today one of the hottest places for spring break and summer destinations for travelers across the world. Known for being the place where tired college students can have some fun before tearing up the nightlife that Miami offers, Miami has a lot more to offer visitors from all walks of life. Ranging from art, and world-class dining to shopping and beaches, there is always something to do in Miami.
Spending time on the beach is a hallmark for both natives and tourists, the warm blue waters and white sands are very inviting. Spending a day in the sun is exactly what one needs to wash away those winter blues. Visiting the sunny Miami beach is like stepping into another world, this utopia allows travelers all around the world to come to peace while still embracing a picture as if it was the 1950s. The Miami river walk is an ideal respite for the cacophony of the city, this place works well as a romantic stroll for those who are tired of the beach life and have no energy for the nightlife. Large pieces of artwork are available for viewing and dot the entire pathway which complements all the surrounding buildings creating a lovely and romantic mood. At the terrace of Smith and Wollensky, you will see all kinds of impressive cruise ships coming back from the Caribbean islands as Miami is the home port of the major cruise companies.
Little Havana neighborhood is also a lovely area to discover when you come to Miami, it used to be the center point where Cuban migrants lived in the 1950s. This area today is also a tourist area and is filled with amazing cuisine, colorful streets, and many of the best bars in the city. You can visit Little Havana to improve your Spanish skills or learn to dance some salsa with your partner or maybe sit back and relax by enjoying one of the best Mojitos in town and smoking the most delicious Cuban cigars. There are multiple tours to choose from which will focus on all the different cultural aspects that Little Havana offers, or maybe you are feeling more adventurous and want to discover the place by yourself and enjoy the evening streets filled with Latino music while checking out the local shops.
Lummus park is one of the most beautiful areas in Miami, it is a rich and aesthetically pleasing looking area of Miami, and it is right on the beautiful beach of Miami which is coated by the Atlantic Ocean which is warmed up to the perfect temperature by the Gulf Stream from Mexico. Another stream coming from Mexico are the migrants who live in the area, fondly enough the Mexican population truly vibrates the city and adds a new dynamic of cultures interacting with each other and sharing tradition, going back to my childhood I remember looking out my house and seeing Mexican families have huge barbeques on the beach with friends and family which seemed very nice. Lummus park offers a wide range of activities one can choose from, as you may already know by the name this is a park. What makes this park special is that it is connected to the beach, throughout the park, there are small gym stations where people can work out under the warm and shiny sun of Miami to get their tan and muscles on point. Furthermore one can also take the children out to the beach as the park has multiple playgrounds where you can dump your kids and enjoy your day, Lummus Park is also amazing for our runners out there, the park has a full running course that goes along the city, through the park and finally ends at the sea.
