Reckoning is also considered to be a statement that refers to a certain writing of goodness and is immoral for every individual in the play. The play portrays that every individual must live their lives in a righteous way and live according to the way God wants them to because he is the one who will decide whether they are going to hell or heaven. Reckoning in the play represents together the judgment of God and Everyman's life on earth including his existence on earth, the way he is living his life, and also the way God will judge mankind. In the play, there was an introduction of women which were Brutus' wife Portia, and Caeser's wife Calpurnia. They both showed the character of being strong women although they could not use that because they were not given a chance to make decisions and place certain opinions on their husbands. They were both committed to not only loving their husbands but also providing sacrifices in what they seemed to think was right for them and their husbands. Calpurnia in the play was portrayed as one who was trying to save her husband's life by trying to stop him from going out because she had a bad dream about him. While Portia seemed to be a powerful and also self-contained woman who was worried about her husband and seemed to have an issue that was bothering him but did not tell her husband. These two women appear to be trying all they could to provide support and protection to their husbands but they are told not to worry about things that concern men, this means that their words and actions are not taken into consideration. This relates to how Shakespeare conveyed the female character in the Elizabethan era where women were expected to be under the control of men when they get married. This basically meant that whatever they do only their husbands had the right to decide for them. This relates to Act 1 scene 111 where the only role of Caeser's wife was to have children and that was the only reason why women got married in Julius Caeser which took place in the Elizabethan era in order to keep their husbands' status and for their husbands to be fully considered as a real man.
