On average 130 million babies are born a year, to most people these little souls are miracles; however, not all people are ready to become a parent. Some people never have the desire to become a parent. Although this is completely optional, sometimes things happen; condoms break, unprotected sex is a real thing, and even rape. For some women, the desire for a child is unwanted, but exactly how easily could something be done? Nowadays getting a abortion is becoming harder

Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy and there are two types, clinic abortion, and the abortion pill. Both terminate the fetus but in different ways.

With an in-clinic abortion, this is when the patient physically gets the unborn child removed and terminated. This can take place two ways with in-clinic, suction, which is normally done 16 weeks and earlier and this is the most common way. Next, dilation and evacuation which is done 16 weeks or later, In-clinic abortion is extremely effective, studies concluded the procedure is more than 99% effective (Planned Parenthood).

With the abortion pill, the same results happen, however, there are some differences. With the abortion pill, you can not take it after 70 days ( 10 weeks) after the first day of a woman’s last menstrual cycle. There are two medicines the patient has to take, the first is mifepristone. This pill works by blocking the female hormone called progesterone resulting in the pregnancy not growing. Following after the pill is misoprostol, this pill causes cramping and bleeding the empty the uterus; misoprostol is supposed to be taken within 6-48 hours after consuming the initial first pill (Planned Parenthood).

The abortion pill is very effective but slightly less than the in-clinic procedure. For women 8 weeks or less it can be 94-98% effective, 8-9 weeks 94-96% effective, and lastly 9-10 weeks 91-93% effective. (Planned Parenthood).

Nowadays getting an abortion is harder than ever. Abortion is such a huge controversy in our society, split between two sides. Pro-life and pro-choice are the sides. Pro-life believes/feels all lives are meant to be brought into the world; abortion is not an opinion for them. They believe under NO circumstances should a woman be able to abort her baby and that abortion should be illegal. Nowadays pro-life supporters will even stand outside abortion clinics to protest against the act. They truly believe abortion is absurd and is one of the most serious problems facing humanity, but claim that this belief is entailed by the view that embryos possess full moral status. To them, abortion is murder plain and simple (Blackshaw).

Although pro-choice is the complete opposite, pro-choice believes that women are in control of their bodies. The whole idea is that women CAN make the choice, no matter what the circumstances are. Because abortions are becoming harder to get now, women are resulting in other “unsafe” methods. Some states and countries how certain requirements that have to be made before even being considered for the procedure. It states “Every year, approximately 25 million unsafe abortions occur worldwide” also another study shows that “13% of global maternal deaths are attributed to unsafe abortions and 7 million women undergo treatment due to complications from unsafe abortion” (Nepal). This should alarm us as a country! The fact that women feel they have to result in unsafe abortion people America’s society will not let me be in control of their bodies. Furthermore, the price of abortions only gets higher and higher the further you get into your pregnancy. Studies conducted in Brazil and Mexico found that unsafe abortion rates were higher among women with lower incomes and women with lower education levels. This is simply because women do not always have the means to legally get an abortion, with the difficulty nowadays, these young women feel like they have no other choice, they know they are not ready for kids, or just may not have the funds to take care of a child. Whatever the reason, they should not have to feel the pressure to have to put their health at risk (Nepeal).

However, these statistics are not alarming to us although they should be. For instance, about a total estimated 323,000 abortions 58 % of those were conducted clandestinely provided by untrained and uncertified health providers or induced by pregnant women themselves (Nepal). This is absurd! How is America okay with this, or any other country for that matter? Women feel the need to result in unsafe practices with their bodies because America is trying to choose for them. Abortions should be the choice of no one but the women. She should have the ability to decide if she wants to mess up her body, wants to even become a mother, or wants to take part in becoming a mother. Americans should not make this decision because America will not be there holding the women's hand along the whole way when things get tough or harder! America will turn its back and force the women to help themselves. Not to mention if she’s not able to take care of the baby's needs it then becomes neglect. If as a society we continue to act this way we will only be pushing women more to harm their bodies and possibly alter their health by partaking in these unsafe practices.
