I came to Cleveland from San Diego on spring break 2013. I am 11 and in middle school and moved here because my mom and dad had a job transfer and I had to come with them. We came by car with a trailer with all our stuff and it was the most boring thing I have ever done in my life. The family I have here is my mom, dad and my grandpa and grandma. My mom and dad called my grandma and grandpa so they could take care of me when they were at work. My dad said that we would be here for a month but that was not the case. We would be here for a year. We are renting a home and it is not as nice as the home in San Diego. It is a total train wreck but my dad is going to fix it and make it the best home I will ever lived in. I think that he is going to fix it or I hope so. I think that it would have been better if we came in the middle of the year because I have nothing to do and it has been the longest spring break ever. I have a dog but he is old and does not play any more. If I came in the middle of the year I would have work to do. I think I am going to just wait spring break out.
I found a garden when I was walking my dog to get some milk from the store. I went inside and is was the best thing to happen to this town. I went home and I asked my mom if I could go there and she said yes, as long as I had my dog with me. I thought that was good because it was a four block walk and my dog needed walks all the time. I went down to the store and got some watermelon seeds and I always wanted to grow them and never got to. School started and that was hard because I had a lot of home work and did not have a lot of time to water the plants but, at the end of the day it was always done. Then on the weekend I thought I saw some one stealing some ones pumpkins and I said '' go grow your own pumpkins !'', and then he left. I didn't mean to yell but it came out louder from my mouth than in my head. I think I got some attention for that statement! The person who had grown the pumpkins was a older man named Sam and said 'thank you' to me. He said this was happening to him for a while and was sick of it but was to old to do any thing. Then he told me how he was growing pumpkins and how I was growing my watermelons wrong. So one day I did what he said and made my garden bigger. He said that I needed a bigger space. I came back on Saturday and almost every one of the plants plant was either been taken of out of the ground or ruined. I think it was the man who was stealing the pumpkins and was mad that I found him.

After that I went home with my dog and asked my mom if I could stay the night in the garden and she said yes, as long as I had my dog and did my home work. I found my dogs bed and got my sleeping bag, pencil ,and home work and I left. My plan was to start looking for the man that was stealing and have some friends with me to help. When I got back to the garden it was total chaos. I told everyone my plan and people were asking to help. Some people acted like it was a life or death situation but, it was for the plants and worth it. Kim (the youngest), Sam (the oldest), Virgil and me all wanted to help.
We had some down time when people were either reading or doing homework. After that we made a flash light fire (this is a lot of flash lights put together so it is like a fire) and that was fun. Then we had some problem with food because nobody brought any. So I went to a gas station and got some food for all of us. When I got back everyone was looking at the same place. They were all looking at a small mean looking man. Sam, the oldest, asked who he was and the man tired to punch him. But to my surprise, Sam was fast and the man missed him and then ran away yelling ''I will be back''! I was a little confused. I thought the man would fight not run. That was the scarcest part. What if he came back with more people? After that we were on the look out and we all were watching for him to return. It was very quite and we all were up all night. In the end that was not what I thought was going to happen. I thought we were going to find him and tell him to stop but for now we should just give it a break.
So, it is a year later and after that we are still friends and never got to go to the garden again. That did not make a difference because it was fall and all the plants were not growing but we still saw each other in school or on the street. I made good friends in Cleveland but was looking forward to returning to San Diego. When we first moved, I got all my friends phone numbers so I could call them we we returned. When we got back I was so happy to meet my friends and go back to my old school. I learned that sometimes you need to do things by yourself and even if it does not work out, it still is a good lesson to learn. I am a thinker because when I needed to use my mind, I did not panic. It was a good thing to learn that if something happens and you don't like it, you can solve the problem by sometimes waiting for it to resolve on its own. My experience in Cleveland taught me how to be independent and cope with a new environment.
