Regarding my academic credentials, I completed my SEE (Secondary Education Examination) from Highly Creative English Secondary School, Kathmandu, Nepal in the year 2017 with GPA 3.65. Right from the beginning, with different exposes, my school helped a lot to develop my skills in the field of science and mathematics which also became my inspiration to continue my further higher education in that subject. So, as for intermediate level I decided to study science as a major subject. After that, I enrolled to Trinity International College located at Dillibazar and completed it in year 2019 with 3.29 GPA in Science faculty. Since, I have always been interested in IT and wanted to pursue a career in it, I started researching and gathered information about undergraduate programs in different countries along with their universities, course curriculums and costs. After much research, I finally decided to apply for Bachelors of Information and Technology at Southern Cross University. So, I started preparing for my IELTS and then appeared for the examination on October 26, 2019 in which I scored an overall 6.0.
Nepal is a developing country and even though the quality of education is improving here, there still are a lot of spaces for improvements. The education institutions in Nepal lack better facilities, guidance and a proper approach to gain quality education. The education provided here in Nepal, still follows traditional system where grades are the most important factor overlooking the knowledge that the students acquire. The course focuses on huge amount of theoretical information and only provides very limited practical experiences. This improves the memorizing skill of a student rather than creativity and critical thinking. There are many institutions such as St. Xavier’s College, Kantipur City College, KIST College and many more colleges which provide courses related to IT field but it has minimum exposure and electives. Due to lack of electives, all the students are compelled to study the same subjects without considering their interest. The course curriculums are also not updated timely and hardly see the need of change in essence to current affairs in course. This makes the education structure of Nepal a bit backward than other countries. IT is a broad subject and is ever-growing, making it always explorable and limitless but in Nepal, it is focused on certain aspects as it lacks proper tools for research programs, blocking a huge opportunity for students to better understand Technology and bringing innovation. In context of Nepal, there are very limited scholarship opportunities to the students whereas developed nations are providing scholarships to the Nepalese students to the greater extend. As we know, technology is a professional course and need much practice but here colleges do not have proper practical environment and internship opportunities. Due to lack of learning materials, resources and very limited courses available for undergraduate study and many more it is leading to less skillful manpower in this fierce global competition. Therefore, due to all these reasons, I choose to study overseas for my further studies over my home country.
