The career that I have in mind at this point is Pediatrician. Luckily for me, it matches my interests and my personality. Although I have other careers in mind, I choose to learn more about this specific career. I choose this career because it’s my dream to become a pediatrician in order to help others since I was little.
Pediatricians often get involved with kids and this involves a lot of patience. They go through a lot of training to diagnose and threat from the smallest to the most serious diseases. This occupation also involves the ability to figure out problems mentally and a lot of searching for facts. This occupation often involved helping or providing service to others.
The responsibilities of pediatricians are to examine children regularly and to assess their growth and development. Determine a diagnosis, prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical condition. Perform, and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical conditions and determine a diagnosis. Examine patients in order, collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
I choose this field because I like to work with kids, and I like to help people. Pediatricians have more employment opportunities. It is a rewarding job; pediatricians are trained to take care of patients and that offsets can even help save lives. Even though there are some bad parts to it, for example, it is difficult for pediatricians to keep a balance between their professional and their family life.
This job luckily matches my skills because this occupation requires communicating with other people and like I said before Pediatricians must help and provide service to others. I have a vivid imagination that helps me look for solutions outside of the box. This would help me because pediatricians need to have an open mind to all types of diagnoses. According to my assessment of Focus2, I am very independent and that helps me because Pediatricians must be able to decide on how to get something done without significant directions from someone else. I am a very good listener and pediatricians must be good listeners to understand what their patient is saying.
The education requirements for being a pediatrician are complete an undergraduate degree, followed by 4 years of medical school and a 3-7-year internship and/or residency. The skills that are required are helping actively looking for ways to help people. Manual Dexterity using your hands to operated fine instruments and precision tools. Killeen-Temple, TX is one of the Metropolitan areas with the highest concentration with an hourly mean wage of $132.21 and $275,000 per year.
I have a very low possibility to relocate because Texas it’s one of the states with
the greatest outlook for this career. If in any circumstances I must relocate a good place would be California with the employment of 3,420 and 0.20 employments per thousands of jobs. Another good place to relocate is Ohio with an employment of 2,040.
As a pediatrician, I’ll be making $90 or more per hour and $126,690 - $208,000 annually. This career is expected to grow much faster than average.
Even though my career has a high outlook there’s a possibility that I can’t find a job after graduation. If I can’t find a job after I graduate, I would consider working as a Family and General Practitioner. Some companies and organizations that hire this position are Aerospace Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of PAs, and American Medical Association. Some similar careers to a pediatrician career are Nurse-Midwives, Hospitalists, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners.
