The world has witnessed many genius inventors, engineers, scientists, and industrialists who have brought many new ideas. One of the great modern thinkers and engineers we have today is Elon Musk. Many know Elon Musk as the man behind PayPal, Hyperloop, SolarCity, Tesla Motors, and Space X. These few companies alone have drastically transformed industries like the automobile, space, and finance. From Tesla producing fully electric cars, SpaceX is working on future space colonization and SolarCity is working on finding cost-efficient alternatives using solar energy. Elon Musk modern-day visionary genius that takes the risk to make his dream come true.
Elon Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa, the son of Maye and Errol Musk. Musk attended Waterkloof House Preparatory School and Bryanston High School before graduating from Pretoria Boys High School. He completed his higher education at the University of Pennsylvania earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. During his childhood Mush was an avid learner, he taught himself computer programming and at age 12, sold the code for a BASIC-based video game he created called Blastar for USD 500. Musk was severely bullied throughout his childhood but that didn’t stop him from going to school and becoming who he is today.
Elon Musk's Career started with Zip2, a web software company that provided and licensed online city guide software to newspapers, with his brother Kimbal. After selling that company Musk started X.com, which later merged and became PayPal. When PayPal was acquired by eBay, Musk used the profits to start SpaceX and Tesla. SpaceX, Hyperloop, and Tesla are some of the main reasons for choosing Elon as my engineering hero. He took the risk to succeed in life and he time about the future. Getting into a market for electric cars was very risky at the time, but Elon took the risk and succeeded, now many people have Tesla, and the cars are saving the environment. Elon said “If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it”
SpaceX designs, manufactures, and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. Elon Musk saw that space exploration had not explored any farther out since 1972, and he decided that he wanted to reinvigorate space exploration with innovations. Elon's goal behind this company was to Musk has stated that one of his goals is to improve the cost and reliability of access to space. Elon thinks about the future and he is trying to tap into undiscovered regions. SpaceX over the years had many achievements like being the first privately funded, liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit, being the first private company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station and recently he is sending out many satellites called star links so that they can provide global internet coverage. Elon is reducing the cost of going to space with his many innovations to improve space travel like reusable rockets and bring its price down the cost of going to space through SpaceX. Elon is also trying to prevent humanity from becoming extinct by putting people on Mars in case something bad happens on Earth. Elon sets long-term goals and helps envision the future for the newer generations to come.
Elon Musk is a risk taker, he doesn’t allow these risks to slow him down. He doesn’t give up and doesn’t back down from a challenge. Because of this personality, it has brought him to the place he is at right now. He Has found a lot of success placing him on the list of the longest billionaires in the world. He wants to see the future as a great place, as any engineer would. Elon Musk is an inspirational hero because he is trying to make space flight affordable for the common person, he is reducing our carbon footprint, and he is trying to save humanity from extinction. “He can't imagine not succeeding and that is a very critical trait that leads him ultimately to success”.
Elon Musk is also trying to help the world by helping to prevent global warming. Companies like Tesla and SolarCity help with the transition from coal/petroleum-based energy to a much cleaner reusable energy. In the world coal is the main source of energy production, while petroleum is the main source of transportation. The main problem is that it is very hard to transition in the automotive industry from petroleum to a cleaner energy source. This is because petroleum-based cars are much cheaper than electric cars, also petrol is easily accessible. However, Elon Musk co-founded Tesla Motors to have a larger impact on the automotive industry, by pushing them to create affordable electric cars. He created the company in hopes that it would serve as a catalyst that would positively affect the world and cause companies to start to transition to electric cars. Elon is also making affordable electric cars, like the Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV. The more the world uses renewable energy sources, the less coal we will burn, releasing less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, it will be like a domino effect. Elon has dedicated a lot of his time and effort to helping solve the carbon emission problem that is causing global warming, which could lead to making Earth nearly uninhabitable.
Elon is an engineer who is helping the world to be more modernized. He is trying to help the world get closer to the future age by bringing new ideas and innovations. Elon is a living hero who is living a life of trying to help the world and all its people, not biased towards himself. Musk wants humans to become multi-planetary as fast as possible since that would be the best for human life. Elon is my Engineering Hero.
