Introduction: The Double-Edged Sword of Technology

Can you imagine your life without technology? I think the answer is no and it is a terrible thing. Technology gives us access to more information. It is the sum of all of the knowledge that we have to make our lives easier. You should remember you are using technology to read this content right now. We use technology in everything in our lives. It can help us to communicate with others, travel to new destinations, or achieve our goals and dreams. If we haven't a technology, we will suffer. The aim of this paper is to talk about the value of technology and the dangerous about it.

The Transformative Impact of Technology on Education

First, education, the transfer of knowledge becomes very easy and convenient, as well as effective and we use it in our schools, universities and colleges by Internet connection and take online session in our homes that make it easy. The modern technologies are demanding that teachers learn how to use these technologies in their teaching and become good at it. John and Urs Gasser described this as “the most important thing that schools can do is not to use technology in the curriculum more, but to use it more effectively”. I think the education in online group may help workers to do things differently than they did before. We can read this that public schools in the United States now provide at least one computer for every five students. They spend more than $3 billion per year on digital content to make it easy for students. Led by the federal government, the country is in the midst of a massive effort to make affordable high-speed Internet and free online teaching resources available to even the most rural schools.

Revolutionizing Healthcare: The Role of Modern Technology

Second, in this paragraph we will talk about modern technology in health. Smart inhalers are the most important thing in this field and the main treatment option for asthma. Before infusion pumps, nurses had to give injections every so often; the infusion pump technology automated that. Now the nurse’s time is freed up for other activities, and if the manufacturer has used technology in the production of the infusion pump – as they surely will have, we think that can reduce the cost of production for exactly the same reasons that accelerate cost savings. Patients generate huge amounts of information – patient records – from X-rays to blood test results. Replacing paper with computerized Summaries makes patient care easier and more efficient. Modern technology will be used in collect data on patient illness, treatments and outcomes, one automatically obtains a lot of information on the effectiveness of those treatments, or relations between side effects and patient characteristics across whole populations. Huge amounts of data will be collected. Stopping people going to hospital in the first place and empowering people to care for themselves and their families is something computers are already doing well and give them a lot of useful information. David Blumenthal described this in “information is the lifeblood of medicine and health information technology is destined to be the circulatory system for that information”. In the future there will remain an enduring distinction between safety and security. In healthcare these mean different things: safety is about patient and staff safety from any danger. The impacts of medical technology involve social and ethical issues. For example, physicians can seek objective information from technology rather than read subjective patient reports, making this easier.

Types of technology in this field are electronic health records, health information exchange, nationwide health information network, personal health records, clinical decision support, face recognition, patient portals, nanomedicine, medical imaging, cloud computing.

We can continue in this field and we will talk about modern robotics that made a huge progress and contribution to healthcare. Robots can help doctors to perform a variety of tasks and their adoption in hospitals is increasing tremendously and decrease mistakes. Surgical robots are one of the robotic systems, which allow a surgeon to bend and rotate tissues with more flexibility and efficiency (Kaul & Navneeta, 2018). The system is equipped with a 3D magnification vision system and can translate the hand movements of the surgeon to be precise to make a surgery with minimal incisions. Other robotics systems include the ability to help doctor in diagnose and treat cancers. Many scientists have begun working on creating a next generation robot system to assist the surgeon in performing knee and hip replacement surgeries. Assistant robots will also be important to help doctor to reduce the workload for regular medical staff. They can help nurses with simple and time-consuming tasks like carrying multiple tools in the same time and it will be useful to reduce the mistakes.

Intraoral radiography is still the most common radiographic technique used in dental imaging and provides dentists with additional important information concerning the bony contour around a tooth, internal anatomy and associated pathology and help doctor to diagnose caries. Extraoral dental imaging provides diagnostic images of the craniofacial complex (Brooks SL & Atchinson KA, 2004). 3D printing technology can use with dental implants to improve or make this good, solve problems of dental implants and produce complex dental implants. 3D printing has the ability to produce complex geometries although can insert a dental implant using a screw type form seems like a well proven approach.

E-Commerce: Bridging the Gap in Global Trade

Third, we will talk about electronic commerce. In the past trading was difficult between countries, cities and individuals and didn't save the time but now we can do this in minute. The rapid proliferation of the Internet makes it easy to any one and most developing countries depend on electronic commerce and Cushla Sherlock described that in these words: “The e-commerce industry is a force that no investor can afford to ignore”. The definition of e-commerce is the electronic process by which individuals or countries or organizations make a transaction, like buy, sell, transfer, or exchange products services and information (Turban, McLean and Weatherbe 2004).

Agricultural Advancements: Feeding the Future

Then, we talk about modern technology in agriculture. The aim of this process is increasing the production of food. Computer monitoring systems and self-steer programs can used in this field allow the most advanced tractors and implements to be more useful and less wasteful in the use of fuel, fertilizer or seed. Inorganic fertilizers have replaced by livestock manures, composts, and nitrogen fixing crops. The basic challenge of sustainable agriculture is to make the best usage of these internal resources. New disease that affects the product can treat by modern technology and biological insect controls are now being used, instead of broad-spectrum pesticides. Akinwumi Adesina says, “Unless Africa uses modern technologies, our farmers: output will remain low and we will remain dependent on others to feed us”. There are three elements in which these have success. They are using resource conserving technologies such as integrated pest management, nutrient recycling, soil and water conservation, water harvesting, and waste recycling. Crop sensors are going to help farmers apply fertilizer in a very effective manner, maximizing uptake to be useful. Sensing how your crop is feeling and reducing potential leaching and runoff into ground water. Mobile technology and cameras are playing an important role for farmers.

The advantages of modern technology in our life in general:

  • Saving time. If someone in his work save 10 minutes of time because of technology, that’s an extra 10 minutes they can do something useful. In the past people washed their clothes by hand and used a lot of time but now it is possible by washer machine and save a lot of time. Miles Davis put it this way: “Time isn't the main thing. It's the only thing”.
  • Improving profits. New technologies are always expensive, but that’s because they can create more profits. It is possible today, through technology, for someone to run a global business from their garage or home office. Anyone sells anything online can improve his profits. Technology can even improve the efficiency of delivery and distribution mechanisms, which can also improve profits and make it better. Bill Watterson described modern technology as “all this modern technology just makes people try to do everything at once”.
  • The Internet. The Internet is the best thing in the history and the information from the Internet allows us to experience in different fields. We can receive real-time news stories updates, play games, or chat with someone on the other side of the planet. The Internet gives us access to more information. Bill Gates says, “The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow”. Thanks to technology, you can read this information in your home. You could drink some coffee as you read the news.

The Dark Side of Technological Advancements

Education on of the most important thing and have some disadvantage in smart class. School management needs extra amount in their budget to keep their school side by side with the most recent technologies in teaching. In everyday, a new version of software produces and it is not only hard to keep speed but also finance these assets. Schools have to appoint someone to maintain and use these resources. That needs necessary classroom changes to the same as the new teaching techniques and technologies. David Warlich described it in these words: “We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world”. To understand this modern teaching techniques and technologies in schools the extra budget is needed to help or invest for the training program for the faculty because all teachers can't become accustomed to use these teaching tools by themselves. The irregular use of electronic technology can harm the problem-solving ability of students.

And all parents are not able to understand with modern technology so they fail to give any educational support or help their children. Students will always connect to the computers which will affect their eyes. When the teaching and learning process is complete continuously by modern technology. This brings monotony in learning which reduces the creativity in learner and makes the class boring without any interaction with the teacher. Many teaching hours can be loss due to any damage in electronic technology. As these tools are delicate and takes a lot of money and time to get repair. In such situation’s teachers are also not able to this and they get disturbed in both the modes of teaching.

Dependency is one of the most disadvantage things in technology the more advanced society becomes technologically, the more people begin to depend on computers in their works and other types of technology for everyday existence. Humans become almost disabled when a machine breaks or computer crashes until the problem is resolved. This type of dependency on technology puts people in trouble, because they become less self-reliant. And people haven't any creativity to do more things in their lives. Albert Einstein talked about this: “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded or humanity”.

In workplace we will have some problems with technology that human workers retain less value because machines make processes and do the work of 20 people with one computer, companies find they don't need to employ as many people to get the job done. And Bill Gates described this loke this: “Humans should be worried about the threat posed by artificial intelligence”. As machines and computers become even more efficient, this will continue to be growing cons of technology and an issue that has a global impact.

We have problem with date security and a lot of amounts of data are collected from all of us every day. From the cookies that get logged onto our devices when visited a website to our credit card information when making a purchase or anything, much of our private lives are stored somewhere on a HDD, SSD, or server. Anyone could find out our details, like where we live, where we work, what we do, and who are closest relatives happen to be.

Conclusion: Balancing the Pros and Cons

Modern technology continues to be increasingly adopted and used by the world. This finding focused on identifying the advantages of using modern technologies in some of fields. We should develop our technology to help us in anything and we walk away and reduce the disadvantages of technology. In this review, we talked about the difference between technology development in education, health, e-commerce, agriculture, and negatives in technology development. The developed countries in technology are the most advanced countries in the world, having power and saving workers' wages. Many of us should use technology in the right way at the right time.
