Rap music is a popular type of genre that is listened to in today’s society. Rap music emerged from other kinds of music to become what it is today. Most people still enjoy listening to rap music. Some prefer new school rap over old school rap. The new school rap is known to have way greater quality. It’s listened to many different races. Although rap is seen to be more of a black culture, it’s sung by many different people. One example of old school rap is Tupac Shakur, who was one of the most popular rappers and poet many years ago. His music had meaning. One example of new school rap is Drake, who has been popular since the recent years. His music is always top on billboards. Celebrities like Tupac and Drake have inspired many people. Others look up to them and become more motivated.

Tupac Shakur, also known as 2Pac, is recognized to be the most significant rappers of all time. People referred to him as the ‘Rap God’ or ‘The King of Rap’. He was known for his image, rapping skills, and his conflicts with people. Tupac was someone who changed the world with his music and meaningful lyrics. He was born in an era where racism was becoming worse for African Americans. He grew up with a mother who struggled with money and kept getting forced to move out due to not being able to pay. When Tupac began his career, he started with lyrics about how African Americans were being treated. He wanted to use his voice and lyrics to show people his point of view of what was going on. Tupac wanted to teach not just this generation, but after generations about what was happening during the 1970s. Music was created to express thoughts and feelings to their fans to understand how life is for people out there. For example, “I wonder if heaven has a ghetto” by Tupac brings up a line, “Black people on a rage, police, so don’t try it”. This line was stating how the black community was full of rage due to the injustice that happened to Rodney King and Latasha Harlins. It was a racial act. He also says, “Here on Earth, tell me what’s a black life?”. He basically is saying that black life doesn’t matter to anyone at the time. They were extremely racist at the time and made them all feel like there was no point for them on Earth. This is an example of Tupac expressing his feelings about what was occurring in society at the time. Another song that Tupac sang about society is ‘Changes’ featuring Talent. This song has to do with drugs, the way police treat black people, racism, and poverty. “Cops give a damn about a negro”. This line states that cops don’t care about the black people and were causing many issues with them. This was Tupac expressing his male point of view about how he felt. Ever since he passed away, he left a myth like figure. He was considered to be a voice for people who weren’t able to voice their opinion. His music played a big role in popular culture. He was heard by millions. Tupac's rapping skills and lyrics are nothing compared to today’s rap music. He left a living symbol of all generations. Tupac portrayed an influential lifestyle that people wanted. He was seen as respectful towards other rappers in the music industry. Rap music isn’t the same as it was before. Rappers nowadays sing about explicit and inappropriate things. Although Tupac sang about similar stuff, he still had better lyrics than music lyrics nowadays.
