‘Freedom Writers’ is an American movie, based on a true story about a devoted and visionary teacher, Erin Gruwell. Erin motivates and teaches her class of combative and confrontational students, that there is another life outside of being a gang banger and death. Erin faces a lot of indifference, not only from her students, but also from the school administration. All of Erin's student journals, books, and adventures outside of school eventually overcome the conflicts that everyone faces, thus shaping the students and Erin to be better when they face life-threatening challenges.
Not just Erin (teacher), but also Eva (student) is also one of the major characters that transforms the most throughout her travels because she has had a tough life as her father is respected gang leader. At the beginning Eva is a tough and confrontational woman who is intent to lie rather than telling the truth to stop someone from the gang from going to prison. An example of that is when she witnesses her boyfriend Paco shoot Sindy’s boyfriend in the corner store. Later, she eventuality testifies against her boyfriend Paco in court, risking her life. She does this because of Erin as she is inspired by the books, ideas and people introduced to her though Erin. As a result, she realizes that sometimes difficult situations are the right thing to do. This sad unfortunate story was developed around the life of Eva, but she tried to move on in life and was not successful because of the violence death surrounding her not until Erin comes into the picture.

Erin was the one who believed in her students even when a lot of teachers and her department head in school just ignored and did not care about them. Erin tried to help with everything by taking on two part time jobs to pay for more books for her students also she spent a lot more time at school. Third, this movie has contained good things that is mentioned about a major historical event. For instance, when her student drew a picture about an African-American and Erin taught them about the Holocaust. The period of time that when Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and the number of the people who were killed in the Holocaust was over 6 million.
In conclusion, ‘Freedom Writers’ was a meaningful movie, which contains lots of good lessons in life and knowledge about history. Also, it brings to us good example of the responsibility of what a teacher should be teaching. Everyone who watches movies like this can learn a thing or two.
