Many old and wise people associate fishing with health and happiness. If you think about fishing , it is one of a few ways for human beings to survive. and when you think about fishing in abstract terms, the images of vast horizons and of the sea, instantly calmness comes to your mind. the serenity and calmness that you feel while sitting on the bank of the river catching fish, makes you forget even the most complex problems and worries in your life and you find yourself in a distant land far from the miseries of the artificial world.

In this modern technological world when everything is available at a single touch on our mobile phones, people still go fishing, and here is a list of 6 reasons why fishing is considered such an enjoyable activity.

A wide range of people go fishing, and if you ask different people why it is such an enjoyable hobby, they will answer that fishing gives them relief from stress, and they feel free. Freedom is what you experience when you go fishing. when you go fishing to a stream or to a pond, you experience and see an environment that is entirely different from your ordinary life, you appreciate and enjoy this new environment. if you interact with nature, you become a part of it, and this makes you forget all the worries of the world.

our routine lives are so mechanized that we sit all day at our homes on social media or watching netflix without ever realizing how disastrous that is for us. Another dilemma of the modern age is that more than 50% of people are overweight and one reason is because people sit all day long. If we go fishing, we become active and feel encouraged. fishing promotes a healthier way of life.

Fishing is a recreation where even the worst day, when you catch no fish at all, it is 10 times better than the time spent at home doing chores. Many people comment that the pleasure of fishing lies in the activity itself, not in how many fish are caught. pinning insects in your hooks, putting them in water for hours and waiting, and then finally catching a fish are truly spectacular feelings.

Nowadays we can get food in an instant, but the healthiest and most natural food that nature offers us is waiting for us in a stream. In fact, most people prefer fresh meat rather than buying preserved meat in a can. Wild fish is rich in protein and contains little cholesterol, making it a favorite food for many.

Fishing gear of any kind particularly fishing gear that is heavy or large can harm the environment while catching fish. Some fishing methods, such as dredging and bottom trawling, impact the sea-floor habitat. In areas with sensitive, bottom-living species, such as deep-sea corals, fishing gear can cause long-term damage, and damage the creatures living inside it. Another fishing method we use is catching fish with nets on some occasions the net can break and fall into the ocean. Net’s being made out of plastic instantly has a severe effect on marine life being 100,000 marine animals dying from plastic litter in the ocean by mistaking it for jellyfish.

Another example of an effect that fishing has on the environment is Pollution!

Waste from fish-feed and faeces can pollute the water and seabed around intensive fish farms leading to poor water and sediment quality. Chemicals and pesticides (used in some fish farming to control diseases) can also contaminate the area and impact surrounding marine life and their habitats.

And out of all the threats facing the oceans today, overfishing takes the greatest toll on sea life …. and people. Overfishing occurs when fish are caught at a rate higher than the population is able to replace itself. Collapse will occur if overfishing is prolonged over time. A government analysis indicates that 17.5% of Australian fish stocks are overfished or are being fished too heavily.

Why does overfishing matter?

The life of Jesus Christ revolved around fishing in many ways. Many of the disciples were fishermen. Simon, Andrew, James and John are all named. Here is a passages in the bible that refers to fishing.

Luke records the story of three of these men fishing,(Mark 1:16-20) and Jesus watching from the shore of Lake Gennesaret (Lake Galilee). “They had quit fishing for the day because there seemed to be no fish. Jesus asked to be taken out into the water a short distance in order to speak to the throngs of people who had gathered. After Jesus finished teaching, he told Simon to go out into the deep water and let down his nets. Simon admitted they had fished all day and caught nothing, but did as Jesus asked. The nets were soon so full of fish, they almost broke and the fishermen were amazed at how many fish they had caught.”

The world’s oceans are so big we thought for a long time that there was nothing humans could do to hurt them. Now we’re at the edge of facing a global collapse of our fisheries, thanks to overfishing we are looking at something like endangered fish before the year of 2048. Billions of people around the world rely on fish as a source of protein and fishing is the principal livelihood of millions. Maintaining the balance of exquisite life in our oceans is just as critical to life on land. But many of the world's fisheries have been pushed beyond their biological limits. Some are even at the point of collapse. Overfishing is a major problem globally, due largely to poor fisheries management and Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing. But, there are a few key solutions to overfishing that have been successfully implemented around the world., to help minimise overfshing because ther are not plenty more fish left in the sea.

Currently, less than two percent of the world’s oceans are protected in marine parks; and less than one percent of the oceans are protected from any kind of fishing. More no-catch zones must be established to allow fish populations and their ecosystems to recover and replenish themselves to ensure fishing for future generations.

STOP TRAWLING

Trawling drags huge nets through the ocean that scoop up every animal and the ecosystem in its pathway, resulting in massive wasteful bycatch – dead fish are returned to the sea because they weren’t the target fish. We don’t have that kind of sea life to waste. Though there are many programs that focus on decreasing by-catch, and worldwide there are small regions where bottom trawling is banned or limited, these measures aren’t enough. Trawling needs to be banned outright.

FISHING PERMITS

By having fishing permits we are reducing the amount of people fishing and by that we are reducing teh amount of fish caught. I f someone fishes in a marine protected area their fishing permit can be taken away from them.

These management strategies for fishing also known as fishing rights can, with the help of community working together can get implanted to stop overfishing and minimise the effects that fishing is having on the environment. So on that note I encourage each and every one of you to get a fishing permit, dont fish in marine protected area’s and stop trawling.

Conclusion

In conclusion fishing is an enjoyable hobby that lots of people enjoy, but we do need to be causious about too much fishing which can then lead to overfishing which will have a severe effect on the oceons environment. We can stop this by following fishing rules and regulations and by implanting the management strategies as shown above into our economy we can therfore save the fish population.
