He is known for being one of the most influential peaceful civil rights activists in the way of using “non-violent civil disobedience”. He also has a famous speech named “I Have a Dream” which inspired thousands or even millions of people, because of its touch of equal rights. His time here was fighting for African Americans and forming organizations as many as possible to get the attention of people to do something about equal rights. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an effective leader of the African-American civil rights movement.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia to his parents Martin Luther King, Sr., and his mother, Alberta Williams King. He grew up in his home that was called the “Williams house” which went by the name of his Grandfather. Their home was built in the year 1895 and was bought by the year 1905 by his grandfather and his wife Jennie. His grandfather and father were pastors at a church that was down the street from his new home.
From a young age, Martin Luther King Jr. was shown to be respectful toward people, and from a very young age, he also witnessed and saw the differences there were between blacks and whites. He picked up the actions of people around him and just seemed to know what was happening at a very young age. He didn't witness any of this alone because along with it he had siblings who also saw what was happening. It was then that Martin Luther King saw that there should be equality for all such as coming together and being at peace. The actions of people didn't come to an agreement with him (like he didn't think that what was going on was okay), And his instincts of being a good person and by the church he believed that people shall come together and hold hands with one another. He was heavily influenced by his father and followed his steps to get to where he got and is memorized by millions.
Martin Luther's king father was also an activist and fought for African Americans to be free by having the will to vote or as I should say have equal rights. King's father led a march of over several hundred African Americans in 1936 to Atlanta’s city hall so they could protest for voting rights discrimination. His education as a high-schooler was actually very short being said that he left high school from the age of fifteen. He had a very good chance of speaking out and had marvelous speech skills. His wide knowledge of vocabulary was what fit just right for his speeches and his deep toned voice was loud enough. After dropping off from high school he went ahead and joined college at “Atlanta's Morehouse College”. It was for an all-men-historically-black university which was where his grandfather and father both went to study.
Soon some time passed by and Rosa Parks also came to interest Martin Luther King with her whole thing of not moving out of her seat on the bus. Martin Luther King found interest in it and soon enough a bus boycott was organized, Surprisingly it lasted for what seemed to be a month. The bus boycott was basically where African Americans were avoiding riding buses because of what occurred. Martin Luther King was part of organizing the protest, It's known that he played a big role in it and has a speech along with what occurred. This protest alone was the very first protest he made and this was in the year 1955. This alone happened in Montgomery.
Martin Luther King soon started more protesting and even started putting together organizations to have people come together and protest. He founded the (SCLC) which is the Southern Christian Leadership Conference that basically mounted nonviolent protests against Jim Crow laws. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that if they were to protest their protests should be peaceful to everyone and everything no matter what the protests were about. He also believed that peaceful protest would lead them to “sympathetic media coverage and also public opinion”. Martin Luther King's insects were proven just right when the civil rights activists were subjected to violent attacks by white officials, And because of this exact event, people started to pay attention and caught people's attention from many different places. The civil rights movement itself came to achieve victories with the title “Civil Rights Act in 1964 and the Voting Rights Act in 1965.”
Let alone Martin Luther King's protests, were receiving nationwide attention as I mentioned earlier. There was also video footage of the lack of impatience of police officers from his protest against the civil rights protesters. Things such as guns and dogs were all brought upon very peaceful protesters and people just seemed to be in complete disagreement. Soon enough the Birmingham police chief named Bull Connor was put to resign and to have the city desegregate public spaces.
During Martin Luther King's first protest, he was actually sent to jail for his actions. Although his protest with the bus boycott was peaceful people seemed to be in disagreement with it and had him put in Jail. For the time being some people were trying to get people to hear them and outside of jail M.L.K had organizations helping him out. Martin Luther King eventually made it out of jail for some time and then the next thing you know King was back in jail and soon he wrote his so-called “Legendary Letter” that had the following.
