In an article by Rachel Nall, she says “When playing offensive positions, being taller helps you reach to the goal. If you are playing against taller defensive players, being taller can help you shoot the ball without the risk of a player swatting the ball away from you.”. This is saying that taller people are probably better because they are closer to the net.
In 1891, an instructor named James Naismith. Is a 31-year-old graduate student from Presbyterian College in Montreal. James loves sports and all athletics. But some might think where did basketball Originate? In the article “Where Basketball was Invented: The History of Basketball” it says “It was the winter of 1891-1892. Inside a gymnasium at Springfield College (then known as the International YMCA Training School), located in Springfield, Mass., was a group of restless college students. The young men had to be there; they were required to participate in indoor activities to burn off the energy that had been building up since their football season ended. The gymnasium class offered them activities such as marching, calisthenics, and apparatus work, but these were pale substitutes for the more exciting games of football and lacrosse they played in warmer seasons.” The man James worked hard to think of something to condition them in the cold… And found the perfect one. At first, the hoops were made of Peach baskets and the backboards were made of wire. The game went from the YMCA to college then professional. Then the game was put into the Olympics in 1936. 45 years later the sport got put into the Olympics it took a while… but it's a great sport to condition in the cold.
This game has changed over the past decades. At first, it started with unlimited players on the court now there are only 5 players per team on the court. Also, it started with 13 rules and now there are 10. Rules have changed a lot over time. Maybe even for the better.
Basketball is not like football where you need a lot of equipment. Basketball is simple. All you need is a basketball and a hoop. “Many playgrounds throughout the world (especially in the USA) have hoops making it easy to get a game going with just a ball.” It also says “Basketball is often played outside in parks or in driveways, but is also a winter sport played indoors. So you can play basketball year-round.” Which was perfect for James Naismith and his players.
Basketball has impacted many lives. The article “Seven Ways Basketball Has Positively Impacted My Life” is by Tiffany Rhame. She has said there are multiple positive qualities about playing basketball. One of them is basketball will help you find great friends. It says “It has helped me make life-long friends with teammates and coaches. It has provided me with mentors who have helped shape the kind of person I am. It has given me opportunities to get to know people I probably would have never had the chance to meet otherwise. I have met some of my best friends through basketball which I am forever grateful for.”. Another good impact basketball has is it helps you learn to deal with people. Honestly, that is something everyone should learn to do, no matter what you do in life, you need to learn to deal with people. She mainly talks about how working with people who are exactly opposite to you can be hard to deal with, but once you meet them and understand them, it's a little easier.

In basketball, you need to have strong muscles. But to dig deeper you need to have strong shoulders to be able to lift the ball all the way up over your head and have the power to throw it over your head.

NCAA women's basketballs are a maximum of 29 inches in circumference, with a maximum weight of 20 ounces and seams no wider than 1/4 inch.” That is not too big of a difference between men and women. In another article, it says “NBA or professional balls and NCAA or college balls have similarities and differences. NBA balls are made of genuine leather and college balls are made of a composite material. NBA balls are made by Spalding and must be orange, 29-1/2 inches around, and they must weigh 22 oz. The NBA ball must be inflated between 7.5 and 8.5 ounces per square inch. The official basketball of the NCAA tournament is the composite leather Wilson Solution. The NCAA requires balls to be between 29-1/2 and 30 inches around, to weigh between 20 and 22 oz., and to bounce between 49 and 54 inches when dropped from a height of 6 feet.” These are the characteristics of a basketball.
At the end of the NCAA basketball season, there is a 64-team, single-elimination, tournament that is used to crown one team champion of college basketball for that season. The tournament bracket has four regions: the south, east, midwest, and west regions. Each region has 16 teams seeded 1 through 16, with number 1 being the best team and 16 being the worst team. The NCAA puts a selection committee together that decides which teams make it into the tournament. Teams that win their conference championship get an automatic bid into the tournament. This opens up the tournament to smaller teams that maybe didn’t get the national exposure that bigger programs get; this also creates a lot of opportunities for upsets. This tournament is nicknamed “March Madness” because the majority of the tournament takes place in the month of March and the many upsets that take place create real madness.
