Diversity has different views and aspects. Diversity practices represent the key actions taken by corporations, the government, the military, higher education, and other establishments to create and maintain an atmosphere for recruiting and retaining the best available talent while optimizing performance to accomplish the organization's mission. Now diversity in the military is helpful after you get over different barriers. These barriers include culture, religion, background, values, and language both, body and verbal. The Army establishes goals in such areas as assessment and communication, recruiting and accessions, force composition, promotions, professional military education, involuntary separation, retention, assignments, discipline, and discrimination and sexual harassment. In addition, the Army promotes the merit-based value system behind equal opportunity for its contribution to combat readiness and unit cohesion. Leaders need to develop competence, confidence, and a positive leadership climate. Leaders must make sure fairness, justice, and equity for all soldiers. Diversity is highly important.
The diversity in the military has these same barriers. Imagine living in Ireland and knowing their language and culture. Then, you immigrate to the United States of America and you join the military. Now your dialect has a barrier that is harder to understand, but people have to get used to this you can overcome that barrier. Religious views are the same way with this. A Muslim in the American military can cause a commotion because of the religious view. You need to look at this in a different mindset. Look at how the person's work ethic is and how they present themselves. Do not assume because they are Muslim that they are all terrorists. They may have a Middle Eastern background and religion, but their values can always be different from those over there. For some missions, we have to overcome a barrier to accomplish the mission. Even with diversity as a barrier in the way.
Diversity has many positives, particularly in a military context. The positives of this diversity are very broad around the board. Now, cultural diversity can help in different ways. It shows people different cultures from outside the realm of home, different food options, cooking, and so much more. Religion can show you different outlooks on a circumstance and help you get through it, as well as everything else. Diversity can help with critical thinking since there are different views and experiences. This can cause a faster-thinking process and come up with faster decisions that can solve the issue at hand. Innovation is a new idea, creative thoughts, and new imagination in the form of a device or method. This can help with new battle plans, weapons, or even programs, especially in critical thinking of accomplishing a common goal. You just have to get past all the negatives and barriers to see all the positive aspects that can help.
I firmly believe that diversity in the military is very important. It can help the military on and off the field, as well as in civilian life. We just need to understand that diversity is just an obstacle we have to overcome in order to achieve our goals and learn new ways of doing things.
