Indiginous Australians and Torres Strait Islander have been fighting for their rights and freedom for decades. With the help of Fred Maynard, Eddie Mabo and the tent embassy event, Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders were able to gain back many parts of their original land, their freedom and their right to do everything, everyone in Australia can do. However there are still many problems that need to be solved but we are still able to enjoy how far we have come and working together to fix Australia.
Fred Maynard, born in 1879 and died in 1946, was an Australian rights candidate who, in 1925 he officially set the Australian Aboriginal liberal organization. Originally, its office leaders were all males from the mid north shore, except for McKenzie Hatton. This group protested against the abandonment of the north coast land reserves. They also required that kids are no longer separated from their homes or used as workers. The AAPA affirmed that all native households should have non-negotiable grants of growing land within their conventional region, that their kids should have access to open schools and that Aboriginals should control any administrative body affecting their lives. Fred Maynard was successful because of his efforts to get the federal government involved in education. This is a great example of how the AAPA has been an important voice in educating people about Aboriginal rights and issues. It is also one of the most effective ways for educators to raise awareness about Aboringinal rights and issues. The AAPA is a non-profit organization that works on behalf of Aboriginal people. They are committed to promoting educational opportunities for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The AAPA is also a national organization that provides educational resources and training to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students achieve their educational goals.
Eddie Mabo, born in 1936 and died in 1992, was an indiginous Australian who was recognized for his campaign for native farming rights and for his role in a landmark decision of the High Court of Australia. Mabo married Bonita Neehow, the Aussie region Sea Islander, in 1959. They had seven kids and adopted three more. One of their girls, Gail, is the native artist and performer who works with schools in New South Wales as a social consultant and serves as the home’s designed representative. The battle of Torres Strait Islander Eddie Mabo to take his rights to ancestry , and the later 1992 Mabo’s opinion of the High Court revealed this story of ‘terra nullius,’ and recognized the rights of native people to earth. The Mabo argument influenced the illustration of land in some movies. Eddie Mabo never gave up on his goals. He was a fighter and one of the most successful fighters in history. He fought for what he believed in and even though it was not easy at first, he kept working hard for his culture. He fought for the rights of all people, regardless if they are black or white and his mark is still going strong today.
The native tent delegation was set up by native activists on the opposite parliament buildings in 1972 to oppose the regime’s refusal to accept native land rights. It was originally a simple beach umbrella and tent that turned into the center and gathering area for native land rights. The Embassy took some forms over these years and continues to remain a strong symbol for native rights to the day. In 1968, the people of Yirrkala, (Northern region) brought up the legal argument against the mining company station “that the relation between tribe and earth did not turn to proprietorship as this is realized at our law.” That was the injustice to the Yirrkala people and did not reflect the traditions of their ancestors. They then sent spokespeople to Canberra to be the message to the Prime Minister. Since then, the embassy has remained in several forms. In 1992, the Australian Tent delegation was re-established as a never ending job. It has stayed there ever since. In 1995, The Australian Tent delegation was entered at the record of the National land, Australia’s official list of heritage spots. There is a sense of desperation increased by having the labour government that promised to reverse some of the worst aspects of the Howard period. Despite this bad statement by Rudd, there is huge pain in the lack of improvement in the circumstances of these people over the last few years.
