The cold seawater crashes furiously into the ancient mountains. A cloud of fog is born in this violent clash. Cape Town is the junction of the sea and the mountains, the last point of Africa. The mountains have been tamed by the sea. They have precipitous inclines carved by the ravenous sea. The water seems almost white because of the frequent duel between the mountain and the sea. Foam erupts, and seems as if a bar of soap exploded in the water. The water ricochets off the mountain with such force that the drops of water feel like shards of glass. The thunderous cry of the sea can burst eardrums, and this impact can physically impair any living being. The mountain stands valorously against the turbulent assault of the ocean, as it has for millions of years.

From the other side of the mountain Cape Town’s world-renowned vineyards reside. The route to the vineyards is covered by invading pine trees. The pine trees stand tall and disciplined, while the shrubs erratically wrap around them. The roads are tiny and pushed in against the assertive mountains. The vineyards are meticulously arranged in rows that stretch for kilometers. The vineyards are plentiful and decorated with black grapes used to make the finest wine prized internationally. The air is fresh, the sky is unblemished, and the weather is tranquil. The mountain stands in the backdrop peacefully and complements the picturesque scene at the vineyards. The mountain from this side is covered with lush forest at the bottom, which turns into steep rock faces at the top. The mountain's appearance from here is not flat but like a broken wine bottle with its craggy creeks sprouting haphazardly. However, this inconsistent appearance of nature does not disturb the flawless arrangement of the vineyards but furthers its allure. The mountain lounges back peacefully against the vineyards, telling onlookers to do the same and be enchanted by the tranquil scene of contrasts.

The mountain wraps around the city like a serpent. It is omnipresent and can be seen from any corner of Cape Town. Its magnificent size dwarfs the city in front of it. Man’s creations seem like toys in front of this spectacular landform. Table Mountain is usually shrouded in a veil of dense clouds. It feels like the mountain is alive and breathing. Seldom, when the smoke perishes, tourists flock to the cable cars to go to the top. From the top of Table Mountain, the sea is a deep blue and the iconic Robin Island can be seen. The city of Cape Town complements the breathtaking nature. You can see the dance of the clouds as they appear, instantly blocking any source of light and making you feel you are trapped in a cloud. The mountain is almost perfectly flat at the top, making you doubt whether you are 1000m above the ground. The top is composed of rugged rocks and ferns as sharp as hunting knives. The mountain’s cliffs are laid out so perfectly, it seems like it is a manmade creation. There are children who try and guess what animal the rock faces look like. There are daring abseilers who satisfy their thirst for adrenaline by being suspended against gravity. Trekkers, conquer the mountain from the bottom, slowly and carefully wandering up to the peak. From any angle, the mountain boasts postcard-worthy views. The Table Mountain peninsula is so vast, even after hours of hiking you would believe that you are in the same place. The landscape is so different you believe you are in a different ecosystem, unscathed from the effects of time.

The beaches lie right at the foot of the mountains. They seem like they have been covered in snow due to the white sand. The water is bone-chilling cold. The mountains ominously glare down at the beachgoers. The quintessential Cape Town fog is most prominent from this side of the mountain. The top of the mountain can barely be seen. The weather is volatile. It can change in the blink of an eye. The sun can be shining brightly one second and can be consumed by clouds the other. This is all thanks to the potent sea gales that reside here. The fierce winds disperse the smoke at such a vicious rate it feels like a volcano has erupted. Thick layers of smoke cover the sun. The wind pushes the trees. The trees have been permanently deformed because of the turbulent winds. The sea roars louder than ever. Table Mountain remains stable. It remains calm amid all the chaos. The wind retreats quicker than it came, knowing it would never defeat the mountain. The beach is filled again, while the sun is shining proudly. However, the mountain remains unfazed by the wrath of Mother Nature. Gallantly standing against all perils that come its way and watching all the calamity around it. It guards the city of Cape Town day and night, just like it has done for the past millions of years.
