I strongly believe that divorce should be legal in this country. Marriage is not just a religious concept okay?
There are two ways to look at marriage. You either get married because you want it to become legal and official to get the benefits, or you want to declare your love in the eyes of your God. For short there is civil marriage and church marriage.
Why did they get married in the first place if they were just going to get a divorce?
All relationships can fail. Okay? We are humans, we make mistakes. Sometimes we end up with the wrong person, and we often realize it when it is too late. Why would anyone want to be trapped in an unhappy marriage? It won't do anyone good. Not the husband, not the wife, their kids, or relatives. Let them go and start a new life.
But if there is a problem in their marriage they should fix it! Not end it!
Tell that to the poor victims of violence, abuse, harassment, emotional manipulation, adultery, etc. I could go on and on. Sometimes, there are just relationships that are not meant to work out. It takes two to make it work. There are times when only one of them wants to, and you cannot force the other person if they don't want to. Let them go. Stop prolonging the agony. Don't make it any more complicated.
Forcing someone to remain with someone they don't want to be with anymore will only result in more misery and suffering.
If their partner is an abuser then sending them to jail is the solution not divorce
Yeah, of course, that's an option. Do you seriously think they'd still want to be tied with an abuser? Jail may separate them but technically, they are still man and wife.
And if you are married to a criminal. Well, that's just a shame. Wouldn't you want to cut all ties too?
Divorce will affect the children
Of course, it does. I know that broken homes can affect children. And it is up to the parents to make them understand why things like this happen or why people separate.
Do you think forcing two parents who are sick of each other to stay together will do them good too? Do you think that even if they stayed together, but lived under a roof of screams, flying objects and threats would give them a happy, normal, childhood?
There are also children with divorced parents who turned out to be fine because both parents ensured they were loved and taken care of despite their failed marriage. Parents need to shape their kid's minds and make them realize that the world is imperfect, but it's okay.
Divorce is anti-marriage and anti-family
Don't blame divorce. If one or both parents screw up their marriage, it is their fault not the existence of the concept of Divorce. Divorce ends the marriage, therefore, setting free the ones trapped from it.
But we are a Christian Nation
Yes, we are. But we are not all Christians. You are all aware that there are atheists, agnostics, or other people with different religion who prefers to get civil marriage to recognize their marriage status, right?
If Christians don't permit divorce, then they shouldn't do it. Stick to your morals and religious beliefs but don't push other people.
Do not stop progress. Let's not think backward.
We already have an annulment
Annulment is the dissolution of marriage. Meaning that the marriage that took place is not valid, therefore the marriage does not exist. Divorce, on the other hand, recognizes that a marriage took place, but you are now ending it.
Annulment is extremely hard to prove, and it is also more expensive than a divorce. For practical reasons, you can see why divorce is needed in the first place.
Not compatible? Irreconcilable Differences? Why did they get married in the first place?
Like I said, people make mistakes. Also, gonna share another unpopular belief here. I think couples should live together first before they get married. It is one way for them to find out if they are truly compatible with marriage. It's the only way for them to truly get to know each other and see their true colors.
Now, I know a lot wouldn't agree because that's not how it is in the bible, that you should get.
