Your race. Your Gender. Your Class. Your identity. These are some of the elements that compose diversity. For humans, diversity is a natural state of being, essential for our survival. Imagine a world where everyone is identical, same appearance, same personality, same interests. We require fresh ideas, perspectives, and practices to engage and inspire us - as well as to demonstrate how others eat, celebrate, and love! The significance of diversity is portrayed not only in society but scientifically as well. Tell me have you considered how easily a disease could obliterate a whole population? No? Well, now is the time to reflect upon it. It is critical for everyone to understand that diversity is not only essential to our survival but our success.
The first point I would like to talk about is the importance of diversity within a community. Diversity within one person allows an individual to feel self-identification or a sense of uniqueness. This aspect permits the idea of tolerance and respect within society, living up to values. There are many cases in which people may feel neglected due to a particular factor that identifies them. An example of this is a case of a thirty-five-year-old female in Cardiff where one of the male managers told a young female junior member of staff that he would only sign her timesheet 'if she'd been a good girl', whilst other colleagues were guilty of whistling, speaking about female staff in a derogatory way and body shaming them. This case highlights one of the many issues that individuals face daily, I would like to touch base on gender discrimination. The literal meaning of gender discrimination is the unequal or disadvantageous treatment of an individual or group of individuals based on gender, meaning that gender inequality can occur to either females or males, however, statistics portray that this is most common toward women. Now, where does gender inequality originate from? The main reason behind this problem is the social norms and attitudes stipulate that women should hold a subordinate position., resulting in fewer females in higher positions. Due to this, the idea of a healthy democracy is discredited as the decisions that our society makes do not include those from a woman's perspective. Would you like to live in a community run by mainly one dominion?
No? well, then the importance and meaning behind diversity must be implemented within our education systems to be taught from a young age for respect for both genders to be developed into each person's mindset. Therefore, it is important to understand diversity and to know the impact of diversity. Diversity is a key element that should be passed on from generation to generation.
Furthermore, I would like to address the economic benefits that diversity brings to countries. The has seen an increase in non-white individuals settling in; this consisting of Asian, black, and Eastern individuals; some of which may include you, your relative, your friends, or someone you know. Every one of these people contributed in a way to increase the economy through the use of their unique skills. Good communication is key to relationships between professionals and service users, a lack of a common language presents a significant barrier to building trust. So what has this got to do with diversity? diversity within people allows them to speak different languages enabling them to communicate with multiple people, building a better business, therefore, increasing profit. Statistics prove that companies in the top 25th percentile for gender diversity on their executive teams were 21% more likely to experience above-average profits. hence, should be addressed in order to make people understand that someone's ethnic background, different genders, or sexual orientation. It creates awareness in people that no matter the differences in individuals, human beings still share basic needs as nature requires them to. They will be able to comprehend the misdeed of discrimination and to feel threatened by another race. It may make individuals accept people for who they are.
Another point I would like to communicate is the impact diversity brings to human co-existence and the value that it must be respected in order to live peacefully and successfully. The distinctiveness of humans permits people to be sensitive to one another, regardless of their own backgrounds or environments, thus allowing humans to engage with one another and learn new things in life by providing insight into the various cultures, customs, beliefs, and lifestyles of people all over the world. In addition, It serves as a platform for people to share information about how things work in the real world, consequently, it is a mechanism for minds to be open to all viewpoints and perspectives. Diversity contributes to the growth of our communities and the unselfish development of our personalities, as well as the elimination of conventional prejudices. Diversity also sparks competitiveness and gives us a wide range of options. For example, the diversity of political candidates in government selection allows us to select the best candidate depending on their qualifications. Therefore, outlining the prominence of diversity
Taking all these points into account, Diversity is of great importance because it determines the future state of society if it is ignored and not cared for many people will suffer. With diversity, people will learn to accept and understand individuals thereby reducing the rate of misunderstanding, conflict, prejudice, and discrimination. I would like to finish this essay by leaving you with a similar situation in relation to diversity. Can an Olympic event take place if only the archery competition takes place? No, it cannot. It is because of the existence of the diverse games played in the Olympics that it becomes interesting and is famous worldwide. Similarly, diversity can not take place without respect and contribution from others.
