The issue of obesity is important because more than 1 in 3 adults are considered to have obesity. This issue is controversial because while some believe that the government is the cause of obesity, others believe that it is a person’s own doing. My opinion on this issue is that fast food places like McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and Arby’s are the cause of obesity in America because it’s fast, it’s cheap/time effective. I strongly believe fast food restaurants are the cause of obesity.

It is important to realize that if you enter a food restaurant, you go in and you are able to come back out in 10 minutes tops. Moreover, if you go to the store and buy some groceries and then come back and cook it will take you at least two-three hours depending on what you are cooking. They could sell better nutrient-rich foods, but they don’t because if they do that they will be running the prices of their cheeseburgers, and it will rise up in costs making it that not a lot of people want it to buy it anymore. This explains my statement because You pressed snooze on your alarm too many times, you’re late for your meeting, and you don’t have time to make breakfast so you’re hungry. it’s noon already and you go to your local burger king, order a cheeseburger and some fries that you get from the drive-through, and all that has been fat and more fat, and this goes on a couple times in a week. This is what fast food restaurants that get you to buy their food and eating it. When you eat a cheeseburger, you think you are getting full but all you ate was just fat and fat and more fat making you more hungry when it realizes that this doesn’t give me nutrients and makes you more hungry making you come back.

A prominent example of how food companies are the reason people are obese can be found in where they place their stores. “Low-income neighborhoods frequently lack full-service grocery stores and farmers’ markets where residents can buy a variety of high-quality fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products” This can relate to this quote “ This reality, which has been called “food oppression,&;#8221; is a crucial component of a growing systemic problem in the United States, whereby America’s richer communities are eating better, while its poorer communities are eating worse.” This can lead back to my opinion of how food companies are the are the reason for obesity. By putting their stores in low-income areas makes more money than they would have if they placed stores in higher income areas. This can also be said that low-income families cannot afford

A further example that food companies are the reason for obesity is true can be found in research.” “The current system opens the guidelines up to the lobbying and manipulation of data,” says Dr. Walter Willett, chair of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health” This can support how fast food companies are the reason why people in America are obese. Another example is “ Coca-Cola had paid scientists to push the message that exercise was a more effective weight loss tool than cutting down on food and drink.” This leads back to my argument by saying how fast food companies are doing manipulating data to get more profit and more sales for their products.

Some people believe that it’s the government’s fault that people are obese because the amount of power that they hold and influence. This is faulty reasoning because food companies are the one who is selling towards the citizens and not the government. Fast food companies are able to influence data and make it so you think that going to their stores and eating their food makes you get full and sometimes lose weight, but that’s all wrong

The evidence in support of how fast food companies are the reason people are obese in America is stronger than the refutations of naysayers. The reason is that for is that Fast food companies have more influence in the food market, then the government The government can provide the guidelines for eating healthy and losing weight but it’s not weighed as much if the fast food companies say it.
