The Outsiders was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by Fred Roos and Gary Frederickson. This movie is a coming-of-age fiction story, that tells the story of two gangs; the Greasers and the Socs, who don’t get along because of their social conflicts. The movie focuses on Ponyboy, Johnny, Johnny, Dallas, Darry, Sodapop, Two-bit, and Steve’s lives from an outsider's perspective. The mood of the whole movie is bitter and restless. Ponyboy shows his hatred towards society for his difficult life, also he shows his resentment towards the Socs because they’re wealthy and can afford a lot of stuff that the Greasers can't. The movie's narrative was important, the movie was well organized but it didn’t follow the book, and the plot needed more violence.

The narrative of the movie was so important because it was written in the first person. The plot was told by a 14-year-old gang member named Ponyboy. Speaking in the first person in this movie lets the audience get inside the narrator’s head and really lets the audience know what the narrator talking about and know how they’re feeling. In this movie, you can really get inside Ponyboy’s head when he’s telling the story and this is really important because in order to understand what’s going on you need to understand what the narrator thinking.

The movie did not follow the book at all. In the movie, Dally goes to the convenience store rips up a magazine, and puts an unloaded gun to the cashier's head. Then he asked for all the money in the cash register. He really didn’t want the money in the cash register, he did it because Johnny died. In the book, Dally just robbed the convenience store, he didn't rip up the magazine. He raised the gun to the cashier's head and then robbed the convenience store. The police chased him and Dally pulled an unloaded gun to the police and they shot and killed him.

The plot could have used more violence between the Socs and the Greasers. The audience needs to see more violence because the whole point of the book and movie is to show people that social conflict isn’t worth the time and it’s pointless. For this purpose, if there was more violence then it would let people realize this point on their own. In the movie, they had the rumble, gang violence, child abuse, stabbings, shootings, and the church fire; all of these instances of violence, are very important to the plot of the story but they need to add more violence so the point can get across to everyone.
