As I walked on the golden grains of sand, a combination of contentment, sorrow, and peace created a feeling of wonderment that overwhelms me whenever I am at the beach. I do not go to the beach only for the sunset. I go there to notice the waves hitting each other, the wind making noises, the distant chattering, and the different kinds of birds flying over the smoothly flowing waves in an ordered and unique way. I go to the beach to watch the sunset as a motivating force as it makes me feel extreme sadness and soon after, happiness. The sun to me is like an inspirational fire in the sky.
Watching the sunset evokes feelings that are deeply hidden within me. The sunset to me is a literal symbol of a coming to an end, which is death. Death is something present that is unchangeable and cannot be calculated, it can only be estimated. We know the sun will rise and set and we know that everyone will eventually die. However, we are not sure about the time of these events. The sunset is also a symbol of letting go of me. Letting go of the excruciating pain making my heart heavy and letting go of the forever nagging guilt. My problems and stresses are released by the beach where everything fades with the sunset and flows away with the waves. Zukhanye, directly translated to shine on, is a name I gave myself to forever remind myself that when the days are dark I should shine on, shine brighter than the ever so beautiful orange and red star.
As I looked up to the sky, she displayed her vibrant and soothing streaks of color. She began to set slowly. The friendly sun rays warmed up my face and legs. The wind became stronger, making my nose pick up the salty scent of the sea breeze. With the breeze came tiny, salty sand crystals flying all over, some got in my eyes and mouth. The sand crystals glowed and sparkled with the sun's rays. Suddenly I was disturbed by the sweet joyous sounds of two little boys. They looked amazed by the sunset as they began to sing which went along with the rhythmic waves creating a melodic soothing combination. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion.
The way the light distributed itself over the water, the thinness of the clouds over the sun, how everything was tinted red, It was gorgeous! The shining sun, was a crisp circle in the bloody sky, illuminating a quivering path across the water. It bathed the ocean's gentle waves and wispy clouds in a burning red. Tears fled down my soft cheeks. It was a combination of tears of joy and happiness. The different colors in the sky, the arrangement of the rocks, and how the sun was not exactly visible. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the fleeting colors of dusk began to fade away. The
charcoal-black rocks circled around small pools of water, shimmering confidently before dark fell upon them. The clear-cut shadows of the trees and mountains became blurred. The sun fell asleep, and darkness invaded. I felt refreshed like a newborn baby without sin.
I slowly stood still taking in the beauty surrounding me. I would never experience this day again and all I could do was enjoy every last bit of it. I had let go of the bad energy I was contaminated with. The sun is an inspirational fire in the sky.
