Honors at Iowa has been a dream of mine to gain entry to. I will be attending the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business this upcoming fall. Although I did not achieve all the requirements to be automatically admitted into Honors at Iowa, I believe that I still have many favorable qualities that would make me a great addition to this program. In this essay, I will explain why I believe that my entrance to this program will be beneficial to both the University of Iowa and myself.
While in high school, I was able to maintain a high GPA, which met the requirement of 3.8, I was only one ACT point away from being a direct admit to Honors at Iowa. My family has not had the best financial situation throughout the past few years, and I was not able to take the ACT any more than the two times that are given to me for free through the free-reduced lunch program. If I would have had the chance to take that ACT one more time I feel as if I would have been able to achieve a composite score of 30 instead of a 29.
Honors at Iowa offers a copious amount of beneficial programs, including the smaller honors classes. I feel that it would be extremely helpful for me, as a first-year student, to be surrounded by other classmates that have the same drive to learn as I do. The smaller classrooms would also be a great relief from the large GenEd lectures. Although I have a great incentive to learn, I feel as if it would be heightened with a more challenging curriculum.
As I will be living on campus for the first year, the Daum dorm for honors students would be a dream for me to be able to live in. Being surrounded by other honors students from a variety of different programs of study would allow me to form many connections with other exceptional students. Since much of my time at the University of Iowa would be spent studying, the Blank Honors Center would be a magnificent tool to better my education.
In conclusion, I believe that I would be a wonderful addition to Honors at Iowa. The connections that I could form and the enriched classroom environments would cause my experience at the University of Iowa enhanced greatly.
