How I Can Apply Psychology to My Future Based on My New Learning

The academic curriculum of a psychology course covers several disciplines aimed at educating and analyzing our human nature, and psychology is among them. It is the study of the human mind and behavior (Leslie & O'Reilly, 1999). According to the definition, psychology is a comprehensive study that deals with human development, health, and clinical matters (Leslie & O'Reilly, 1999). Additionally, the discipline is composed of sub-topics that include social behavior and cognitive processes (Leslie & O'Reilly, 1999). Psychology has many applications in the life of an individual and society and will help me understand many aspects of those lives. This psychology course represents many aspects of my life, from dealing with complex issues of the behavior of my friends to motivating myself for college courses and exams.

Since psychology is a scientific study, its investigative trait significantly impacts a person’s future. Psychology investigates behavioral causes with the guidance of systematic and objective observations (Leslie & O'Reilly, 1999). Therefore, when observations are correct, a person can predict what effects the current behavior will have on them in the future. The outcome is either positive or negative, and in the case of the latter, one should avoid a particular behavior in the future. However, in the case of the former, the conduct needs some encouragement. I must make many observations and judgments in my life, as I make decisions for the future. The study of psychology has helped give me the tools I need to make these key life decisions. It also helps me better understand how I can make social adjustments in my life so I can make better life choices.

Psychology is a scientific discipline aimed at conducting investigative procedures using systematic and objective elements before concluding the positivity or negativity of the behavior. However, to convince people that the trait is either good or bad, evidence of viability should exist. The evidence is important to the investigators since it acts as a reference point if future generations demand supporting documents in response to the judgment made earlier.

Psychological behavioral analysis requires interpretations. Therefore, theoretical reviews need to quote facts from authors and other academic scholars. For example, a person can provide psychological explanations by citing works of prominent psychological authors. Hence, future generations will have proof that certain psychological behaviors are positive or negative based on ethical judgments supported by theoretical interpretations. Key learning about behaviors helps us adjust our lives to better understand the people and situations we encounter. It has definitely helped me better understand my current situation of learning the behavior of people.

It is justifiable to argue that an individual's future depends on past decisions. Therefore, it is vital for human beings to make accurate and sound decisions to ensure that their future is not negatively affected. Psychology empowers people to think critically and make wise choices. An array of information can be obtained through cognitive psychology and a better life results from the applications of such strategies.

A set of choice-making techniques can have positive impacts on a decision, which I will benefit from in the future. The first strategy is known as the Six Thinking Hats, which teaches the essence of analyzing a situation using several points of view (Ren, Xu, & Gou, 2016). Additionally, the analysis is conducted using such elements as rationality and creativity (Ren et al., 2016). Both negative and positive scenarios of choice about to be made are examined psychologically, leading to the selection of the best alternative.

Another decision-making element employed is when potential threats or costs and benefits of the decisions are considered. In this case, a decision, that is anticipated to have minimal threats, is advisable. Moreover, a decision should be accompanied by the maximum amount of benefits. When the two factors are adhered to, the choice made will be wise and sound; and in the long- run, the future living in relation to the psychological decision made will be positive.

Lastly, a grid analysis finds application as a guideline during decision-making. The technique above is the most reliable since it uses numerical data to conclude (Ren et al., 2016). A scoreboard with a scale of 1 to 10 is used, and therefore, the decision awarded the highest value is considered the soundest choice, and the vice-versa is true (Ren et al., 2016). The subject matter being the relation between psychology and the future, the grid analysis will ensure that the choice made is beneficial in the future.

Health is a critical aspect of us as human beings. Therefore, people desire to ensure that they live a healthy lifestyle to increase their life span. In relation to the element above, psychology is a useful element as far as the issue of healthy living is at hand. Psychology champions proper nutrition and body fitness through regular exercise (Faiola & Holden, 2017). Additionally, psychology teaches the benefits of proper diet and explains that such ailments as depression and obesity are avoidable if one adheres to food (Faiola & Holden, 2017). Therefore, a person’s future will be well-shaped if his or her health is prioritized and given adequate care. My awareness of health and nutrition has helped me function better at school and at my job. I always believe that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. The study of psychology has helped me realize this.

In the current environment, an individual cannot survive as a single entity. Therefore, people should strive to improve their interpersonal skills. In such a case, psychology has come in handy since the discipline impacts people with life skills that will enable them to live in harmony with others by avoiding cultural conflicts. As a result, psychology teaches about emotional intelligence where the essence of understanding others' emotions and considering their different opinions is viewed to be of importance (Segrin, McNelis, & Swiatkowski, 2015). The utilization of life skills in society leads to a better future life. Psychology has helped me understand different types of behaviors and therefore has helped me with the betterment of my interpersonal skills.

In the quest of analyzing how psychology affects the human future, it is necessary to shift one’s point of view to education. Cognitive research proves that it is accomplished through psychology that new knowledge is innovated to ensure that all academic interests are highly motivated (Mehrabani & Mohamad, 2015). Additionally, the latest theoretical knowledge helps in reducing the monotony of ideas, which existed in the past. Therefore, the future of education will be better because of educational psychology.

The future of our country relies upon the leadership techniques applied by our government. Psychology helps ensure that the younger generation acquires ethical leadership skills that will benefit our country in the future. It has helped me in making ethical decisions in my job. Psychological research shows that in modern communities, leaders are not only born but they are also made (Mehrabani & Mohamad, 2015). Therefore, a society with effective leadership styles will ensure that negative externalities affecting the community find solutions. It is through psychology that the future will be made better through effective leadership. I think my new learning will also make me a more effective leader at school and in my job responsibilities.

Therefore, psychology has so far brought positive changes and is expected to further the positive impact in the near future. The assertion of these ideas comes from the fact that psychology offers such skills as eliminating distractions and focusing on tasks.

Social-cultural psychology is one of the more specific disciplines within psychology. It deals with the study of how people view others and themselves and how they influence the behavior of one another. This is the area I really enjoy the most. For example, social psychologists argue that humans are attracted to those who have similar attitudes (Kalat, 2010). The importance of knowing about cultures and cultural variations is further reinforced by the increased immigration, traveling, and the advent of the Internet and social media, which has caused indiscriminate mixing of people. Besides, many countries have various ethnic groups, and the behavior of each community is different. Thus, having the knowledge of social-cultural psychology will help me in dealing with people of diverse backgrounds.

Lastly, it is essential to note that the future of our country depends on the psychological competence of the population. Intelligent people help technology improve, innovate, and boost the financial economy. Therefore, psychology plays a vital role in such processes by ensuring that the minds of upcoming researchers are developed to become knowledge-retaining and competent enough. Psychology teaches young scholars on how to focus on information and create new ideas (Rahmat, 2018). Therefore, when young scholars acquire such knowledge early enough, they will be the movers of the technological future. It has given me a better understanding of how to focus on information and create new ideas for my future learning.

Therefore, it is vital to invest in psychological knowledge since its impact is positive, not only for people receiving services but also for the whole community. Additionally, academic institutions should encourage scholars to widen their interest and expertise in the discipline in question to enable them to develop a firm psychological base, which will be of benefit. The benefits of psychology will improve not only people’s lifestyles but also the existence of society. Psychology is the science that helps us discover who we are both now and in the future. Based on our exposure to psychology can help us make social adjustments and live better lives. I am glad I enrolled in this psychology course and I think have improved my future situation based on the variety of topics I learned in this course. I will apply psychology to all my future learning at college and in life.
