Sexual harassment negatively affects job performance as a result of employee turnover. Employee turnover is when a company loses a skilled employee. When a skilled employee quits their job as a result low salary, it becomes a disadvantage to the organization simply because the organization will be required to employ a new individual which most of the times will require training of the necessary skills. This training takes a lot of time and resources as a result it slows down the productivity of the organization
Sexual harassment leads to decreased morale for victims (Siuta & Bergman, 2019). Victims of sexual harassment are more likely to slowly lose interest and lastly withdraw from an organization. Many a times people who have been sexually harassed by their colleagues at their places of work loose interest in the job. They slowly start skipping work days or drag a lot when working. Their input is largely affected hence with time one considers withdrawing their contracts hence leaving the job. The effects of sexual harassment can also spread to other members and areas within the organization (Siuta & Bergman, 2019). Workmates might as well get discouraged when they witness their colleagues being harassed. This could lead to conflicts among team mates as people choose sides on who was on the wrong hence leading to decreased work group productivity. In addition to this working in a harassment environment may as well negatively affects employees and workplaces.
Sexual harassment may lead to negative health outcomes for the victims. Victims of sexual harassment may be infected with Sexually transmitted diseases. The victims may suffer from depression and episodes of anxiety due to stress. In the long run such people may result to alcohol abuse and are at a risk of having eating disorders, sleeping problems and respiratory infections as a result of smoking to reduce stress.
Gender discrimination leads to decreased job satisfaction. Low job satisfaction comes as a result of decreased morale in the workplace. Normally when one person in the team feels dissatisfied and has less morale to work it affects the other team mate hence the productivity of the whole teams gets affected too.
Public allegation of gender may lead to bad reputation of the company. Public allegations of gender discrimination can damage the brand image of a company as well as its stock price. Moreover, employers will have a hard time recruiting new workers if their company develops an image of a hostile working environment. This leads to a less effective workforce and more recruitment costs which can hurt both employers and employee (Trevino, 2018)
