Have you ever wondered what it was like to perform open-heart surgery, deliver a baby, or repair broken bones? Well, these are all things done by those who work in the medical field. Typically, these professionals major in biology during their undergraduate studies. While studying this major, individuals find it imperative to gain an understanding of the science behind all life forms and this assists them as they embark on advanced studies, medical careers, and nursing careers. Taking AP Biology will allow me to experience the interesting activities and topics taught in class, challenge myself, and develop college-level academic skills.
Taking the class, I will experience interesting activities and topics that will lead to experiments and other things. AP Biology “is an introductory college-level biology course. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore the following topics: evolution, cellular processes—energy and communication, genetics, information transfer, ecology, and interactions (College Board).” When I walk into the class for the first day I know that there will be weird and not-so-weird experiments but the most important to me is learning the information I need to pass the class. Learning about the different topics will give me a better understanding of how I feel about the topic and might even convince me to major in biology. It will also expand what I learned in regular biology even more. AP Biology can be both fun and stressful, but regardless I want to learn as much as I can.
Knowing that AP Biology is a college-level course, it is rigorous and requires me to step out of my comfort zone. Taking this class will challenge me to develop critical thinking skills and also learn effective time management tactics. It’s not like taking honors classes because AP classes allow you to get college credit while honors don’t. Throughout this course it will be challenging and I will be stressed but, I refuse to give up because I believe I will find confidence in my abilities to pass, The more I challenge myself, the more I will start developing college-level skills which will benefit me when I actually enter college.
Aside from experiencing interesting activities and topics and challenging myself, AP Biology will help me develop college-level academic skills. The class is meant to be more challenging than standard or honors classes and because of that, I develop the skills required for college. It will most likely be filled with other students and a teacher who is committed to learning and problem-solving. In college, you have to be committed to anything you set your mind to because there are a lot of people who enter college for the first year and are scared of the amount of hard work and time it takes. Taking AP Biology will prepare me for all the hard work in college as well as allow me to develop college-level academic skills.
The reason why I choose AP Biology is that it will allow me to experience the interesting activities and topics taught in class, challenge myself, and develop college-level academic skills. When I take AP Biology I will experience interesting topics and activities in the course that might encourage me to major in biology when I get to college, challenge myself and it will cause me to do things that I haven’t done before, and develop the skills I’m going to need for college especially since I want to succeed in college and after that.
